A silicone coating material is operative to graft a silicone polymer coating on an ignition wire. The ignition wire includes an insulated conductor with an inner conductive core and an outer insulating jacket layer which has an outer surface. The silicone coating material is applied to the outer surface of the insulating jacket layer and includes a silicone prepolymer, a coupling agent, a catalyst, and a graft initiator. The graft initiator is operative to prepare the outer surface of the insulating jacket to receive by grafting the coating layer including the silicone prepolymer and the coupling agent, and the catalyst is operative to promote grafting by polymerization of the coating layer.

A power flosser tip incorporating a tooth-whitening coating. The coating is typically abrasive, and whitens teeth by scraping or wearing down hardened plaque or other tooth discolorations. The coating may also whiten teeth through a chemical reaction. The coating may be flavored in order to enhance user enjoyment. The coating is chemically bonded to the flosser tip, and dissolves when in contact with saliva or water at room temperature and pressure.

Filtration media having germicidal for use in filtering particles and deactivating, removing and/or destroying microorganisms from a feed liquid passing through the media. The filtration media includes an effective amount of at least one germicidal agent associated to monomers polmerized and chemically grafted and covalently bonded to the surface of the media. The germicidal filter media is prepared by contacting the media with a grafting solution comprising one or more monomers, a catalyst, a surface agent, a curign agent, at least one graft initiator, and at least on germicide and subsequently curing the media at an elevated temperature to chemically graft the polmerizable monomers onto a surface of the media and associate at least one germicide thereto. Filter media suitable for use in the present invention include ceramic spheroids, hollow glass spheres, polmeric type meida, thermoset coated glass spheres, and crystalline microporous materials, such as zeolites. The germicidal filter media is effective for deactivating, destroying and/or removing from a feed liquid, such as water, escherichia coli, salmonella choleraesuis, staphylococcus, aspergsillus, klebisiella, listeria, clostridium, rotavirus, cysts and other microorganisms. Moreover, the filter media can be used repeatedly without a significant decrease in its germicidal effectiveness.

A solution for forming a graft substrate containing a graft initiator, a catalyst for activating the graft initiator, a polymerizable silicon softener, and at least one additional prepolymer, each of the softener and the prepolymer which includes a functional group for reaction with an activated site on the substrate for grafting thereto and water. The treated fiber exhibits excellent crockfastness, color fastness, and abrasion resistance, strength, and has a soft hand.

Surface modified solid polyethylene and high density polyethylene products, together with compositions and methods for producing these products, are provided. Polymer coatings comprising vinyl, urethane, and/or epoxy are covalently grafted to polyethylene substrates. The grafted coatings optionally colorants, flame retardants, and the like, that impart desired improved properties to polyethylene substrates. Grafted substrates include, for example, boards, sheets, tubing, pipes and the like. The treated products are more fire resistant than untreated polyethylene and unlike untreated polyethylene, are also capable of retaining post-manufacturing paint, markings, or adhesives, as desired.

This invention relates to the coating of steel parts with organic polymeric materials for resistance to corrosion, abrasion, impact, salt solutions of high and low pH (both in liquid as well as vapor state) and corrosive atmospheric gases under the environment of high relative humidity and ambient conditions of temperature and pressure. To obtain secure and permanent adhesion of the coating on the steel article a polymeric coating is formulated so as to achieve chemical grafting to the steel face. This involves the use of monomers, prepolymers, catalyst and a graft initiator system. The monomers are preferably polyfunctional and when applied onto a metallic substrate, react via graft polymerization with the metal to form a polymerized layer coated onto the surface of the steel substrate. The monomers and prepolymers are so selected that when polymerized onto steel the coating has substantially zero moisture vapor-gas transmission rate and consequently acts as a barrier to moisture, oxygen and other gases from coming in contact with the surface of the steel substrate thereby improving the protective potential of the coating. Fillers may be included in the coating material to enhance physical or wear characteristics. Other components that can be added are slip agents, wetting agents, thixotropic promoters and adhesion promoters. This coating process is particularly advantageous for use with steel parts used in the manufacture of cranes

Disclosed are liquid hydrocarbon fuel concentrates, including low sulfur liquid hydrocarbon fuel concentrates containing at least 5,000 ppm boric acid suspended in the liquid hydrocarbon fuel. The liquid hydrocarbon fuels include gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, jet fuel, boat or motorcycle fuel. Also disclosed are liquid hydrocarbon fuels compositions formed by diluting the concentrate to form compositions containing only from about 10 ppm to about 50,000 ppm boric acid. Also disclosed are liquid hydrocarbon fuel compositions formed of a reaction product of boric acid having a particle size of about 65 microns or less, associated with a liquid hydrocarbon fuel having a monomer or prepolymer chemically grafted thereon.

A coating formulation for application to surfaces associated with combustion, such as fuel injectors, and surfaces subjected to elevated temperatures, such as fuel supply components, to prevent the deposition at high temperatures of carbon or graphite on such surfaces, such as stainless steel and alloyed steel compositions. The coating formulation forms a thin layer of polymer coating on the surface by chemical grafting involving the use of a graft initiator to create active bonding sites, on the metal surface, for the silicone-based prepolymer to undergo polymerization on the metal surface. The bonding and polymerization are completed in a single application process without using complex equipment. The coating and process helps surfaces associated with combustion and surfaces subjected to elevated temperature reduce carbon or coke formation at temperatures up to 700&deg; F. and thereby improves the durability and performance of those surfaces.

This invention relates to a coated substrate comprising (i) a substrate and (ii) a coating thereupon comprising a polymeric composition formed from (a) twenty-five to ninety-nine parts by weight of a poly(amide-imide) prepolymer; (b) one to twenty-five parts by weight of a trifunctional ester selected from the group consisting of trifunctional methacrylate ester, trifunctional acrylate ester, and mixtures thereof; (c) from 0.5 to fifteen parts by weight of an organo-reactive silane consisting of an amino group containing alkoxysilane having the formula NH (CH ) Si(OC H ) where n is an integer from one to twenty; and (d) a conductive additive.

Polymeric coating compositions, polymer coated substrates, and methods of making and using the same

The germicidal grafted filter media is effective for deactivating, destroying and/or removing from a feed liquid, such as water, , staphylococcus, aspergsillus, klebisiella, , rotavirus, cysts and other microorganisms. Moreover, the filter media can be used repeatedly without a decrease in its germicidal effectiveness.

The present invention relates to a polymeric coating composition for application onto glass substrates for anti-reflective properties. The coating is provided via chemical grafting that involves the use of monomers and/or prepolymers, catalyst, and graft initiator and when applied onto the surface of the glass substrate forms a polymeric film chemically bonded to the glass with excellent adhesion. This coating can reduce the reflectance of the coated glass surface to as close to zero as possible, thus maximizing transmittance and providing resistance to abrasion, water/chemical attack, and UV degradation.
