An apparatus and method for cable management via hook and loop type materials are provided. The apparatus includes a substrate and a tie wrap. In at least one embodiment, the substrate is coupled to a rigid frame that is capable of accommodating a plurality of cables. The substrate and the tie wrap each have engaging mechanisms that enable them to create a hook and loop type releasable bond when pressed into contact with each other. The tie wrap is shaped to define an elongated body and a head portion having an interior opening. The body of the tie wrap may be pulled through the interior opening of the head portion in order to provide support for cables.

A spool for holding cable is disclosed. The spool has an S shaped cable pathway for connecting a first circumferential cable pathway with a second circumferential cable pathway. In one embodiment, the spool includes an S shaped groove extending through the middle portion of the spool to define the S shaped cable pathway. In one embodiment, the radiuses of the arc pathways of the S shaped cable pathway are designed to meet the minimum bending requirements of the cable to be stored on the spool. In one embodiment, cable is stored in the spool by first inserting a middle portion of cable to be stored in the spool in S shaped cable pathway and then rotating the spool in a first direction.

A unitary-construction shielding system obstructs an energy source opening within a connector housing when no connector is present within the housing. The shield is at least as wide as the energy source opening and is configured to rest in a position, when no connector is present in the housing, that obstructs the laser source opening. When a connector is inserted into the connector housing, the connector supplies an obstruction force to the shielding device, causing the shielding device to remain in a deflected position. When the connector is removed from the connector housing, and the obstruction force is therefore removed from the shielding device, and the bias portion of the shielding device causes the device to return to a rest position that again obstructs the energy source opening. A method for providing a shielding system provides that the installation and removal of the shielding device may be accomplished without removing the connector from the connector housing.

A connector retainer panel provides a number of openings for connector adapters, where the number of openings is an integer power of 2. Each of the adapters is any type of optical adapter that mates two connectors. The connector adapters are placed within the panel in a vertical orientation, in a side-by-side relation to one another. Mounting holes may be provided in order to attach the connector adapters to the panel. Additional mounting holes may be provided to mount the retainer panel to a chassis. Within a chassis, multiple retainer panels are provided in a top-to-bottom orientation.

The spool can be utilized to store fiber optic cable. In one example, the spool is attached to a fiber optic carrier for storing excess cable held in the carrier.

An apparatus provides storage for cable slack and also provides for segregation of interface cables on the front of a chassis and for segregation of intrasystem cables on the back of the chassis. A and B copies of intrasystem cables are segregated on opposite sides of the chassis. Cable slack spools are provided at the top and bottom, on each side of the front and rear surfaces. This configuration allows for convenient cable slack storage for both top-entry and bottom-entry cables.

Fiber optic cable segregation and slack storage apparatus and method

An EMI cable passthrough shield for a cable opening in an electronic system housing. The EMI cable passthrough shield includes portions made of an electrically conductive, deformable material having cable passageways to receive cable. A plurality of shields can be stacked in a cable opening of an electronic system housing. The shields can be compressed such that the deformable material completely encloses a cable. An example of a deformable electrically conductive material is an electrically conductive elastomeric material.

EMI cable passthrough shield

A multi-part shielding system obstructs an energy source opening within a connector housing when no connector is present within the housing. The shield is at least as wide as the energy source opening and is configured to rest in a position, when no connector is present in the housing, that obstructs the laser source opening. When a connector is inserted into the connector housing, the connector supplies an obstruction force to the shielding device, causing the shielding device to remain in a deflected position. When the connector is removed from the connector housing, and the obstruction force is therefore removed from the shielding device, and the bias portion of the shielding device causes the device to return to a rest position that again obstructs the energy source opening. The bias portion receives support from a bias support member. A method for providing a shielding system provides that the installation and removal of the shielding device is accomplished without removing the connector from the connector housing.
