An optical system has a first lens element (L) having an outer portion () and a first tapered surface (). A second lens element (L) has an outer portion () and a second tapered surface (). Passively aligned optical elements

An optical system is provided. In order from an object side to an image side, the optical system includes a first lens element having a positive power, a meniscus shape, and an object side surface. The object side surface of the first lens element is convex toward the object side. A second lens element has a negative power, a meniscus shape, and an object side surface. The object side surface of the second lens element is concave toward the object side. A third lens element has a positive power. An aperture stop is positioned on or in front of an object side of the first lens element.

A data reader has a digital image detector an optical system imaging on the digital image detector, and a marker beam source that emits a diverging, centerless visible light projection. A data reading system includes the data reader and media bearing: a visible primary image and a secondary image overlying the visible image. The secondary image is transparent to visible radiation and modulates a band of invisible electromagnetic radiation. The media also bears visible indicia aligned with the secondary image.

A camera flash unit for illumination of an associated target surface comprises a linearly symmetric flash light source providing light defined as light rays, a reflector directing the light rays from the flash light source towards the associated target surface and a refractive/TIR (Totally Internally Reflective) condenser lens element. The reflector is located adjacent to one side of the flash light source. The refractive/TIR condenser lens element has optical power in two orthogonal directions and is located adjacent to another side of the flash light source. The refractive/TIR condenser lens element has two surfaces--a back surface facing the light source and a front surface. One of the two surfaces is a hybrid refractive/TIR surface, the other of the two surfaces is a refractive surface.

Flash device for dye transferring

A reflector includes one closed end, one open end and highly reflecting curving walls. The walls are symmetrical about at least one axis of symmetry. The walls include a first segment and other segments. The first segment has a curved shape and is located at the closed end of the reflector. The first of segment directs most of the light rays incident on it across the axis of symmetry at crossover points, prior to the rays striking the associated target surface. Most of the light rays striking the walls of the first segment near the closed end of the reflector are having crossover points near the light source. Most of the light rays striking the walls of the first segment progressively further away from the closed end of the reflector are having crossover points located progressively closer to the associated target surface. The other segments direct nearly all of light rays incident on the walls of the other segments towards a portion of the associated surface. This portion of the associated surface is located on a side of the axis of symmetry where the light rays are incident on the walls of these other segments.

Reflector and a reflector/light source system

A camera flash comprises a flash light source providing light, a and a condenser lens element. The reflector is located adjacent to one side of the flash light source and has a trough with a reflective surface oriented towards the flash light source. The reflective surface partially encloses the flash light source and extends no more than 2 millimeters beyond the flash light source towards the target surface.

An improved hybrid camera is provided for capturing an image photographically on film and electronically on an electronic sensor in which the image captured by the electronic sensor may be electronically cropped to match the image captured on the film. The camera includes a first lens having multiple focal lengths and a second lens having two selectable focal lengths. The image is focused through the first lens onto the film to capture the image photographically, while the image is focused through the second lens on an electronic sensor to capture at least the image electronically. A controller in the camera selects the focal length of the second lens to maximize the resolution of the portion of the image captured on the electronic sensor which matches the image captured on the film. The image captured on the electronic sensor may be cropped by the controller to match the image captured on the film. The controller can display the cropped image on a color LCD screen, thereby allowing the user to view the same image as captured on film, or store the cropped image in memory.

A hybrid camera includes a camera housing (12); an electronic imaging device (68) supported within the camera housing; a first optical system (58) for focusing light from a scene onto the imaging device, the first optical system having a first optical axis (16') and a first field of view (162); a film imaging plane (48) defined within the camera housing for photographic film (44); a second optical system (30) for focusing light from a scene onto the film imaging plane, the second optical system having a second optical axis (14') spaced from the first optical axis and a second field of view (164); a viewfinder (18, 26) supported by the camera housing, the viewfinder having a third optical axis (18') and a third field of view, the viewfinder being located relative to a selected one of the first and second optical systems such that the third field of view includes at least 75% of the field of view of the selected optical system; the field of view of the selected optical system being larger than that of a non-selected one of the first and second optical systems such that the field of view of the selected optical system includes at least 75% of the field of view of the non-selected optical system; an array of electronically actuateable masks (76-112; 116-150) positioned transverse to the third optical axis within the viewfinder, the masks being configured and located for actuation to correct for parallax between the viewfinder and the non-selected optical system and to indicate a print format (H, P, C) for an image to be captured on photographic film; means (20) for measuring range from the camera to an object in a scene reflecting light to be focused on the imaging device and the imaging plane and for producing a signal proportional to the range; and a controller (40), responsive to the signal, for actuating selected ones of the masks for correction for parallax, or indication of print format, or both.

An automatic printer for making prints of normal and panoramic format negative filmstrip image frames arbitrarily interspersed in a single filmstrip. Normal and panoramic projection systems are provided for projecting normal and panoramic images onto respective projection planes of the photographic print paper. Normal and panoramic format image frames are distinguished, and the appropriate projection system is employed through the insertion or withdrawal of a first reflective mirror into the projection path of the image bearing light beam. Zoom lens systems in each projection system are set to the appropriate magnifications for the width of print paper employed. The panoramic projection system employs a precision variable conjugate controlled zoom lens in association with a second movable mirror to adjust object plane to image plane distance to avoid overlap of the normal and panoramic projection planes at each magnification for each paper width.
