Seating assembly and method of making same

A headlamp cleaning system has a headlamp especially suited to HID or tungsten halogen applications including a source of light and a polycarbonate lens for distributing the light and a control system for automatically controlling a pump for distributing washer fluid against the lens each time that the vehicle ignition is turned on and whenever a sensor for sensing dirt build-up on the lens signals the presence of dirt build-up thereon and the control system continues the cleaning cycle until all dirt is removed from the lens.

Automatically controlled washer system for headlamps

A system of inflatable air cells is constructed and installed in a seat at locations that are strategic to the comfort of the user. The air cells are connected to a pump through a manifold which sequentially connects each cell independently to the pump. The manifold controls the flow of fluid in the air cell distribution system by means of a system of valves and senses the pressure in each cell by means of a transducer. A microcomputer is programmed with data representing a desired comfort level for each of the air cells. By sequentially activating individual manifold valves, a pressure signal from the transducer can be generated for each cell. The pressure signals are received by the microcomputer and are correlated with the predetermined comfort data to generate a control signal which activates the pump. In this manner each of the cells can be individually inflated or deflated to the desired pressure level. By varying the number and location of the cells the system becomes responsive to the localized pressures exerted on the body for a great variety of users.

Interactive, individually controlled, multiple bladder seating comfort

A vehicular seat (10) including a seat bottom (12) and a seat back (14). In one embodiment, the seat bottom (12) and seat back (14) are formed from a blow molded frame (16) including side walls (18) extending generally upwardly from a bottom panel (20). A support mat (32) comprising fabric/rubber webbing extends across a central cut-out region (28) in the bottom panel (20) and supports an inflatable cushion (48) comprising a series of air cells (50). An extensible upholstery or trim cover layer (56) covers the inflatable cushion (48) and is joined to the frame (16). In a second embodiment, the seat bottom (12) and seat back (14) are formed from a blow molded shell (62). An intermediate layer (64) of plastics material is provided on the shell (62) beneath an upholstery layer (68). An opening in the shell (62) allows the intermediate layer (64) to be expanded outwardly from the shell (62) as the pressure within the shell (62) is increased.

A tungsten-halogen lamp employs a quantity of loose copper particles within the envelope to function as an oxygen getter. The loose particles allow the copper to be positioned in the lowest, and thus coolest, part of the lamp whereby the lamp can be burned in any orientation.

A multi-lamp photoflash unit has a plastic housing member with a back portion having a plurality of cavities formed to receive a reflector unit wherein is disposed a plurality of flashlamps and a light transmitting front portion formed to fold over and enclose the flashlamps and is characterized by the improvement wherein at least one part of one of the front and back portions of the plastic housing is folded over the edge of the other, aligned in parallel with and sealed to the other of the front and back portions to provide a shear-type seal. The multi-lamp photoflash unit is fabricated by a process wherein the front and back layers are contacted, one is folded over, aligned with and sealed to the other by spaced spot seals.

A sequentially operable multilamp photoflash array includes a plurality of radiation-responsive normally open (N/O) connect type switches which are prepared from a composition which includes a filler material, a binder, silver coated particulate solids and silver-salt coated particulate solids. The switches are fabricated by a process wherein the silver coated particulate solids are stirred in potassium permanganate, added to an admixture of silver coated glass beads, a filler material and an organic binder and deposited onto a printed circuit board.

Photoflash switching array and fabrication utilizing silver-oxide coated

A photoflash unit comprising a plurality of 2n flashlamps attached to a printed circuit board and disposed in a linear array with the longitudinal axes of respective lamps aligned in parallel. Circuit patterns on the circuit board include a plurality of n selective terminal means, each associated with a respective pair of the lamps and connected to one lead-in wire of each of the lamps of the associated pair, and a common terminal associated with all of the 2n lamps but directly connected to the other lead-in wire of one lamp of each pair. The circuit board has a substantially rectangular portion with n spaced apart extensions projecting vertically from a longer side thereof, the extensions being located behind alternate lamps of the linear array. Each extension contains portions of the circuit patterns spaced apart to form predetermined gaps, and a mass of switch material is disposed on each extension to bridge the gap between circuit patterns to thereby provide a solid state radiation switch on each extension behind and adjacent to a respective lamp for receiving radiant energy emitted by that lamp. In this manner, a respective normally open switch on each circuit board extension is coupled between the common terminal and a lead-in wire of the other lamp of each pair of lamps, so that the n normally open switches are coupled between the common circuit lead-in wire of associated pairs of the 2n lamps.

A photoflash unit comprising a plurality of 2n flashlamps attached to a printed circuit board and disposed in a linear array with the longitudinal axes of respective lamps aligned in parallel. The circuit board has a substantially rectangular portion with n spaced apart extensions projecting vertically from a longer side thereof, the extensions being located behind alternate lamps of the linear array. Each extension contains portions of circuit patterns bridged by a mass of switch material to provide a solid state radiation switch on each extension and adjacent to a respective lamp for receiving radiant energy emitted by that lamp. The unit further includes a plurality of reflector cavities within each of which a respective one of the flashlamps is nested. Each reflector cavity includes a recessed rear wall section for accommodating a circuit board extension, such that each of the extensions are disposed between a respective lamp envelope and the recessed rear wall of the associated reflector. With the lamp contiguous with an upper portion of each reflector cavity and each circuit board extension contiguous with a recessed lower portion of a respective cavity, substantially equal predetermined spacings are maintained between the switches of the n extensions and the alternate lamp envelopes associated therewith.

A photoflash unit comprising a horizontal linear array of photoflash lamp enclosed within a one-piece housing member having a light-transmitting front portion folded-over a back portion containing a plurality of lamp-receiving cavities in which respective lamps are disposed. The housing is a formed sheet of plastic film having a linear fold disposed horizontally along the top of the array of cavities. A pair of lead-in wires from each of the lamps are connected to conductive circuit patterns on one side of a printed circuit board sandwiched between a set of tabs which run along the bottom of the front and back portions of the housing. The housing tabs are secured together and to the circuit board by a plurality of staples symmetrically disposed along the tabs. Each of the staples has a pair of legs extending through both the housing tabs and the circuit board, with the center region of each staple bearing against an external surface of one of the tabs and the staple legs being clinched onto an external surface of the other of the tabs.
