A method includes receiving a request to store an extensible markup language (XML) document in a repository. The XML document includes a plurality of markup elements. The method includes extracting a plurality of nodes from the XML document. Each node corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of markup elements, and the plurality of nodes are stored in a same memory block. The method further includes determining a set of memory requirements for each node. Each set of memory requirements includes a first memory space required to store a respective node, a second memory space required to store a set of direct child nodes of the respective node, and a third memory space required to store all descendant nodes of the respective node. The method includes storing each node in respective records in the repository based on each corresponding set of memory requirements for each node.

Loading XML records into a database

The present disclosure is directed to a method and system for compressing data. In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present disclosure, at least one data string is received. The at least one data string includes characters. A token string corresponding to the at least one data string is generated. At least one repeated substring in the at least one data string is identified. A refer-back token associated with the at least one repeated substring is generated. The refer-back token indicates a position of the at least one repeated substring and a length of the at least one repeated substring.

Method and system for compressing data

According to one embodiment, a data storage system includes a storage medium coupled to a compression appliance. The compression appliance is operable to selectively compress data that is stored on the storage medium. The compression appliance selectively compresses the data according to a lower compression threshold and an upper compression threshold such that a useful compression level is achieved while balancing processor loading.
