An integral, hollow metal golf club head including a sole plate, a crown, a face, first and second side walls and a rear wall. The club head includes The sole plate has a rear sole portion. The crown has a rear crown portion. The upwardly and substantially vertically extends from the rear sole portion to the rear crown portion. The rear wall and the face connect the sole plate to the crown. The sole plate has a substantially planar central portion positioned between first and second outwardly and upwardly curved side portions. The central portion rearwardly extends from the face to the rear wall. The sole plate has first and second shoulders formed by the rearward extension of the central portion beyond the first and second rearmost points of the first and second side portions, respectively.

A golf club shaft is provided with increased torsional stiffness by making the outside diameter of the tip end larger. The torsional stiffness per unit weight of the shaft is greater than the torsional stiffness per unit weight of prior shafts. The shaft can be attached to a clubhead by inserting the tip end over a male hosel or over a shaft adapter which is attached to a female hosel.

A wood type golf clubhead includes a face, a sole, a crown, a toe portion, a heel portion, and a hosel portion adjacent the heel portion. The hosel portion has an inverted or recessed portion which includes a generally concave wall. A hosel tube extends upwardly from the hosel portion. The hosel tube is supported within a boss which is formed integrally with the inside surface of the face. An alignment groove is provided at the intersection between the face and the crown, and the groove includes a surface which lies within a plane which is substantially vertical when the clubhead is soled at address. The sole includes a flat portion for supporting the clubhead at address, and a rear wall curves upwardly and rearwardly from the flat portion to the crown. The toe portion and the crown merge at a relatively sharp angle to provide a streamlined shape.

A multipurpose sports goal assembly can be used for a variety of sports including football and soccer. The goal assembly includes a lower goal portion and a pair of telescoping upright poles. The poles are retracted when the goal is used in soccer, and the poles are extended when the goal is used in football. A net is attached to the lower goal assembly and is adapted to be releasably attached to the upright poles when the poles are extended. The structural members which form the goal assembly are removably connected so that the goal assembly can be disassembled and stored in a compact package.

A putting aid for a golf putter comprises an elongated rod and a generally spherical end member mounted on the rod. The rod is adapted to be slidably inserted through an opening in the end of the grip of the putter. The distance of the end member from the grip is adjusted so that the end member contacts the body of a golfer when he assumes his putting stance. The portion of the end member which contacts a golfer's body has relatively low friction so that the end member moves relative to the body if the proper putting stroke is not used.

A set of golf clubs has a constant projected topline angle, which is the angle between the topline and the leading edge of a clubhead as viewed by a golfer at address. The loft angle and the topline angle varies for each club in the set, but the projected topline angle is constant throughout the set.

A golf clubhead includes a front face, a top crown, and a plurality of rails which extend rearwardly from the face and downwardly from the crown. The open structure provided by the rails permit weight to be distributed high in the toe portion and low in the heel portion of the clubhead.

A golf club head is provided with a cavity which has a pair of side walls which extend at an angle of about 0.degree. to about 50.degree. to the hosel of the club head. The shape of the cavity positions a substantial portion of the weight of the club head in the upper portion of the toe of the club head and in the lower portion of the heel of the club head. The orientation of the weight of the club head provides a substantial moment of inertia about an axis which extends through the center of gravity at an angle of about 45.degree..
