A system for remotely sensing the delivery of mail to a mailbox uses a transmitter mounted on the mailbox. The transmitter generates a prescribed signal when the door of the mailbox is opened. The system also uses a receiver adapted for placement at a location remote from the transmitter. The receiver has two receiving circuits. The first receiver circuit generates a mail arrival output in response to receipt of the prescribed signal from the transmitter. The first receiver circuit maintains the generation of the mail arrival output regardless of continued receipt of the prescribed signal, until receipt of a prescribed termination command entered by the user. This way, the user knows when the mailbox door has been opened. The second receiver circuit generates a receiver locator output separate from the mail arrival output in response to receipt of the prescribed signal from the transmitter. Unlike the first receiver circuit, the second receiver circuit automatically terminates the receiver locator output in the absence of receipt of the prescribed signal after a predetermined time period. The temporal receiver locator output indicates when the receiver is placed in the remote location for good reception of the prescribed signal.

Mail delivery signal system

A garage door opener includes a radio receiver and a push button each operable to initiate a pulse for effecting a switching device which in turn energizes a latching relay. Operation of the latching relay completes an energizing circuit to the appropriate winding of a reversible motor which moves the door toward an open or closed position. A sensing circuit is operable for effecting the reversal of the latching relay to change the direction of motor operation in the event the door engages an object in its path. A foot switch may also be provided for positively sensing an obstacle and reversing the drive motor. A transmitter may be provided with an impulse circuit to limit the duration of the system actuating signal regardless of how long the transmitter push button is depressed.

Garage door opener

The invention relates to a power door opener, such as the type of opener used for opening overhead garage doors includes a worm gear rod having a major thread and a carrier member coupled to the door and releasably engageable with the major thread for moving the door between open and closed positions as the rod rotates. A second thread whose pitch is smaller than the major thread is formed on the rod and on a portion thereof located between a pair of spaced apart limit switches. A control member threadably engages the second thread for movement between the limit switches as the rod rotates for terminating motor operation as the door moves into its open and closed positions. The carrier member is mounted for radial movement into and out of engagement with the major thread to permit manual operation of the door.
