An elongated grooving or threading tool has a cutting section and a rearward cemented carbide section which are held together in axial alignment by a drawbolt which extends through an axially aligned bore in the cutting section and engages the respective sections to hold the connection under compression.

Grooving or threading tool

A reamer having a single cutting blade with parallel clamping and seating surfaces seated in an anvil having converging radially outward extending planar surfaces for enhancing the clamping effectiveness of an installed anvil/cutting blade adjustably positioned radially by a pair of set screws angled to provide fine adjustment.

Adjustable reamer

An adjustable boring head that includes a main body member having a longitudinal axis, and a boring bar holder adjustably mounted in the main body member for slidable adjustments transversely across the longitudinal axis. A square cross-sectioned slideway is formed in an end face of the main body member for precise guidance and rigid support of the boring bar holder. The boring bar holder is a unitary one piece structure having a deep socket opening for rigidly mounting the boring bar.

Adjustable boring head

A mechanism for clamping a cutting tool holder in a socket formed in an end face of a clamping unit in a cutting machine. An axially movable drawbar has a multiple number of flat surfaces obliquely angled to the drawbar axis for exerting cam forces on individual wedge elements that are slidably guided for outward movement into wedge lock engagements with an inturned flange on the tool holder. The wedge elements exert axial forces on the tool holder internal flange for simultaneously achieving a relatively tight fit of the tool holder in the associated socket and a seating of the tool holder against an end face of the clamping unit. The mechanism can be used in rotary or non-rotary machines.

Universal tool connection

A machining tool to be mounted upon a cutter body, the machining tool including a cartridge for mounting upon the cutter body and an anvil rotatably affixed to the cartridge, the anvil including a pocket into which is affixed a cutting insert for rotation with the anvil.

Machining tool

A device for locking a tool to a cutting machine. During a locking action a drawbar is rotated to bring a radial lock pin into registry with oppositely directed bayonet slots formed in a tool that has been inserted into a pocket in the end face of a tool holder; a spring acts on the drawbar to move the lock pin into the bayonet slots. The lock pin is carried on a nose element that is threaded onto the drawbar for drawing the lock pin toward the drawbar to achieve an axial lock force between the tool and the tool holder. Tapered frusto-conical surfaces on the tool and holder produce a self-centering tapered sticking lock action. The oppositely directed bayonet slots allow the tool to be forceably dislodged from the sticking taper when the drawbar is rotated in a reverse direction.

Bayonet tool locking device

A boring bar has a longitudinal axis, with a steel head section having a cutting insert displaced from the longitudinal axis. In one embodiment, a cemented carbide section is joined directly thereto. In another embodiment, a intermediate section includes a devibrator body. The respective sections are joined by a centrally positioned drawbar threadedly inserted into the head section for maintaining a compressive force at the specifically configured connection between the axially aligned sections.

Vibration dampened boring bar

An elongated grooving or threading tool has a cutting section, an intermediate section including a devibrator body, and a rearward cemented carbide section which are, respectively, held together in axial alignment by a drawbolt which engages the cutting section and cemented carbide section for holding the intermediate section under compression.

Coarse/fine adjustment boring head employing a transverse sleeve threaded into and extending through a boring head body providing coarse incremental radial adjustment of an insert cartridge, axially oriented within a sleeve, together with a fine radial adjustment of the cartridge relative to the sleeve effected through a differential screw having differential pitch threads with lead in the same direction.

Coarse/fine adjustment boring head

An elongated grooving or threading tool has a cutting section and a rearward cemented carbide section which are, respectively, held together in axial alignment by a threaded fastener and a drawbolt which engage the intermediate section and hold the respective connections under compression.

Central drawbar operated tooling connection system wherein a pair of wedges are positively driven laterally outward and retracted by reciprocation of a central drawbar. Mechanical advantage of a key slot between drawbar and wedges plus mechanical advantage of the wedge angle amplifies a drawbar force for producing axial loading in the order of 5:1. Alternative forms of drawbar actuation such as by screw thread feed, preloaded spring with hydraulic release are optional.
