A system for telemetrically monitoring a patient includes a remote monitoring device associated with the patient. A location services system tracks a location of the remote monitoring device. A patient tracking computer calculates a distance and a duration of patient ambulation from the tracked location. A method of monitoring an ambulatory patient monitors the location of a remote monitoring device and derives ambulatory event data from the monitored location.

System and method for rapid location of an alarm condition

A patient monitoring system and method for reliably communicating alarm conditions detected by an acquisition device that receives physiological data from the patient. The acquisition device includes a control unit that detects alarm conditions based upon the physiological data received from the patient. A primary transmitter and a secondary transmitter are coupled to the control unit and are each capable of transmitting the alarm condition. The primary transmitter is configured to connect to a wireless network and communicate over a first frequency range. The secondary transmitter is configured to transmit over a secondary wireless network using a second frequency range different from the first frequency range. When the primary transmitter is not able to communicate with the primary wireless network, the control unit activates the secondary transmitter to transmit the alarm condition. The secondary transmitter remains active until the primary transmitter reconnects with the primary wireless network.

The system and method of the present application includes a functional software stack including a type 1 hypervisor running on a single hardware platform. One embodiment of the hardware platform includes a processor and storage media, as well as network and video hardware. The hypervisor includes a network driver and a display driver, and executes directly on the hardware and abstracts the hardware from any guest operating systems (OS). To the OS, the hypervisor appears to be the base hardware platform and the network and display drivers appear to be similar hardware as well. The guest OS includes the resident patient monitoring application as well as third party applications, both of which execute independently on the virtualized hardware of the hypervisor. The network and display drivers manage the monitoring network and display regions in a monitoring display that are available to the guest operating systems.

A centralized patient monitoring system configured to enable each of a plurality of technicians to generally simultaneously monitor multiple patients is disclosed herein. The centralized patient monitoring system includes a computer adapted to receive patient data from the monitored patients, and a display configured to visually convey the patient data. An athletic shoe has a sole that is slightly, if at all, thicker than soles that are common to athletic shoes. A plurality of spikes or cleats are caused to depend from the bottom of the sole by an actuation mechanism that has a rotatable knob projecting from the back of the athletic shoe. The structure of the sole provides for openings to the undersurface to allow spikes to pivot outwardly beyond the undersurface of the sole. The actuating device has an actuator slide that translates a transverse movement to a pivotal movement of the spikes.
