An assembly of electronic components enabling reception of data using an optical fiber includes: a photodiode; an amplifier coupled to the photodiode; a flexible printed circuit board, the photodiode and amplifier physically mounted on the flexible printed circuit board; a cover, the cover configured to cover the photodiode and the amplifier, wherein the cover is physically attached to the printed circuit board so as to provide mechanical rigidity around the photodiode, and the cover having an optically transparent aperture containing a lens configured to focus modulated light signals from a fiber onto the photodiode; and conductive bond wires configured to directly electrically couple the amplifier and the photodiode to conducting traces of the flexible printed circuit board.

A construction and configuration for the receiving function of a high speed optical communication system with reduced manufacturing cost and improved performance. In an aspect, mounting the cover and lens provides a self-alignment behaviour that advantageously positions the cover and the lens to be in the optimum position for the photodiode. An assembly of electronic components receives data using an optical fibre. In one aspect, the assembly includes a photodiode, an amplifier coupled to the photodiode, and a printed circuit board on which the photodiode and amplifier are physically mounted, The printed circuit board has areas of a first material to which components may be attached using a fixing agent, and areas of a second material to which components will not attach using the fixing agent. Conductive bond wires are configured to directly couple the amplifier and the photodiode to conductive traces on an opposite side of the printed circuit board. A cover is configured to cover the amplifier and the photodiode, and is physically attached to the printed circuit board to provide mechanical rigidity around the photodiode and the amplifier. The cover has an optically transparent aperture containing a lens configured to focus modulated light signals from a fibre onto the photodiode. The printed circuit board has areas of a first material and second material configured to fix a location of the cover by use of the fixing agent to align the lens to focus the light signals from the fibre onto the photodiode.

Opto-electronic assembly

In one embodiment, a touch screen device includes a controller, a force sensing layer, a cushion layer, and a reference layer. The controller includes a processor to determine a distance between the force sensing layer and the reference layer. The cushion layer is between the force sensing layer and the reference layer. The cushion layer may include a plurality of holes at selected locations devoid of material of which the cushion layer is made. The reference layer may include a plurality of raised areas at selected locations.

Touch sensor with force sensor response normalization, and related method and apparatus

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a touch sensor substrate associated with a plurality of electrodes and a plurality of connection pads. The plurality of electrodes is configured to detect a touch. The plurality of connection pads are configured to be electrically coupled with a touch controller. The method further includes laser etching a plurality of paths. The method also includes filling the plurality of paths with an electrically conductive material to form a plurality of tracks. Each track is configured to electrically couple at least one connection pad of the plurality of connection pads with at least one electrode of the plurality of electrodes.

In one embodiment, a touch sensor includes one or more meshes of conductive material. Each of the meshes comprising a plurality of conductive lines. At least a first conductive line of the plurality of conductive lines has a width that is greater than a width of at least a second conductive line of the plurality of conductive lines.

Substrate for electrical component and method

In one embodiment, a method comprises driving one or more drive electrodes formed on a substrate with one or more drive signals. A wiper comprising at least one arm is driven to a predetermined voltage. The wiper is electrically insulated from a plurality of sense electrodes formed on the substrate. For each sense electrode of the plurality of sense electrodes, a charge stored by the sense electrode is detected. A processor determines a position of the wiper based on the detected charges stored by the plurality of sense electrodes.

Capacitive position encoder

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a touch sensor with one or more meshes of conductive material. Each of the meshes includes multiple mesh cells defined by multiple mesh segments. Each of the mesh cells includes a centroid and multiple vertices. The mesh segments are made of the conductive material, and the centroids or vertices of the mesh cells have a substantially random distribution within an area of the touch sensor. The apparatus also includes one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media coupled to the touch sensor that embody logic that is configured when executed to control the touch sensor.
