The present invention pertains to a system and method for transdermal sampling, comprising: at least one sampler for retrieving and transferring at least one analyte obtained transdermally from the skin of a subject; at least one detector system for identifying and quantifying said at least one analyte; and at least one logic module for (i) receiving and storing input data from said at least one detector, (ii) relating the input data to other data obtained from the subject, (iii) displaying output information, (iv) transmitting the output information to another system, and (v) controlling the operation of said at least one sampler and at least one detector.

Systems and methods for monitoring health and delivering drugs transdermally

A method of detecting cyanide concentration in the cutaneously transpired gas of a patient, allowing for the timely implementation of an appropriate treatment. Where the skin of a patient suffering from cyanide poisoning has been burnt, the present invention provides for a noninvasive means of cyanide treatment. In practice, a material is impregnated with methemoglobin and attached to a patient's skin. A barrier means located between the impregnated material and the patient's skin allows for the transfer of cyanide gas from the patient into the material. However, this barrier means does not allow for the transfer of the methemoglobin from the impregnated material into the patient's skin. The material is monitored for photometric change, and, where a change indicative of cyanide poinsoning is present, appropriate treatment is administered.

Method for detecting cyanide in cutaneously transpired gas

A dermal substance collection device (DSCD) is described which provides ms for the non-invasive, instantaneous and continuous monitoring of chemical substances which are present in a detectable amount in either or both interstitial fluid or sweat or which are on or in the skin. The transdermal substance collection device of this invention is comprised of three essential components: (1) a substance binding reservoir, wettable by (2) a liquid transfer medium which allows for liquid bridge transfer of a soluble substance from the skin surface to the binding reservoir by virtue of its wettability by the liquid, and (3) an occlusive cover.

A method for the non-invasive, continuous collection of substances which transdermally migrate to and vaporize at the surface of the skin of a subject comprises providing a binding reservoir material juxtaposed at the surface of the skin of a subject, and continuously maintaining the binding reservoir material in a substantially airtight relation with the skin surface over an entire collection period. The apparatus comprises a binding reservoir material and means for continuously maintaining the binding reservoir material juxtaposed at the skin surface of the subject in a substantially airtight relation wiht the skin surface.

Transdermal vapor collection method and apparatus

A transdermal detection system for the detection of a target substance which migrates to the surface of the skin of a subject by diffusion comprises detector means and attachment means. The detector means includes at least one detector chemical contained in solution and capable of chemically reacting with the target substance as the target substance migrates to the skin surface of the subject to produce a detectable signal, and a barrier means for substantially preventing migration of the detector chemical into the skin surface of the subject. The attachment means maintains the detector means adjacent the surface of the skin of the subject.
