A fluid-sampling system that includes a downhole tool string with a fluid-sampling tool coupled thereto, and a fluid sampling probe coupled to the tool via a probe extension arm, the fluid sampling probe having an oval pad that contacts a borehole wall, one or more fluid inlets which receive a formation fluid, and a plurality of screens between the borehole wall and the one or more fluid inlets which filter the formation fluid. The fluid-sampling system further including one or more offset arms coupled to the tool which contact the borehole wall.

A swellable material layer () is disposed exteriorly of the base pipe (). A fluid collection subassembly () is disposed exteriorly of the swellable material layer (). A drainage layer () is disposed exteriorly of the fluid collection subassembly () and the swellable material layer (). In response to contact with an activating fluid, radial expansion of the swellable material layer () causes at least a portion of the fluid collection subassembly () and the drainage layer () to be displaced toward a surface of the wellbore ().

Sand control screen assembly and method for use of same

Well screen fabrication. A method of fabricating a well screen includes the steps of: providing a filter portion having an inner dimension, and then increasing the inner dimension, the providing and increasing steps being performed prior to installing the well screen in a wellbore. Another method of fabricating a well screen includes the steps of: providing a base pipe having an outer dimension, providing a filter portion having an inner dimension less than or equal to the outer dimension, then increasing the inner dimension to greater than or equal to the outer dimension, and then decreasing the inner dimension. Another method of fabricating a well screen includes the steps of: providing a base pipe having an outer dimension, providing a filter portion having an inner dimension, and then providing an interference fit between the inner and outer dimensions.

Well screen fabrication

A sand control screen assembly () is operably positionable within a wellbore (). The sand control screen assembly () includes a base pipe () having a plurality of openings () in a sidewall portion thereof and an internal flow path (). A plurality of radially extendable filter members () are each operably associated with at least one of the openings () of the base pipe (). The radially extendable filter members () have a circumferential dimension that is less than a longitudinal dimension thereof. The radially extendable filter members () have a radially retracted running configuration and a radially extended operating configuration, in which, the radially extendable filter members () preferably contact the wellbore ().

A sand control screen assembly () is operably positionable within a wellbore (). The sand control screen assembly () includes a base pipe () having at least one opening () and an internal flow path (). A swellable material layer () is disposed exteriorly of the base pipe (). A fluid collection subassembly () is disposed exteriorly of the swellable material layer (). The fluid collection subassembly () is in fluid communication with the internal flow path (). A filter medium () is operably associated with the sand control screen assembly () and is disposed in a fluid path between the exterior of the sand control screen assembly () and the internal flow path (). In response to contact with an activating fluid, radial expansion of the swellable material layer () causes at least a portion of the fluid collection subassembly () to contact the wellbore ().

A sand control screen assembly () includes a base pipe () having a plurality of openings () in a sidewall portion thereof and a swellable material layer () disposed exteriorly of the base pipe () and having a plurality of openings () that correspond to the openings () of the base pipe (). A plurality of telescoping perforations () are operably associated with the openings () of the base pipe () and at least partially disposed within the corresponding openings () of the swellable material layer (). A filter medium () is disposed within each of the telescoping perforations (). In operation, radial expansion of the swellable material layer (), in response to contact with an activating fluid, causes the telescoping perforations () to radially outwardly extend.
