Device for high-pressure treatment of substances

A high-pressure press, preferably for treatment of foodstuffs by high-pressure, comprising a cylinder element (20), provided in a vessel volume (4) of a pressure vessel (1), with a movable piston (24). The cylinder element is arranged with a gap (21) in relation to the surrounding pressure vessel wall (8), such that the same pressure prevails inside the cylinder element as outside thereof.

The invention relates to a device for cooling of the furnace chamber (4) in a hot isostatic press by means of devices (7, 8) for circulation of a coolant in the furnace chamber (4), the coolant having a temperature which is lower, but not considerably lower, than the temperature of the articles.

Hot isostatic press

A hot-isostatic press adapted for rapid cooling of the hot zone after completed pressing and sintering of the material includes a pressure vessel, end closures, and a hot zone surrounded by thermal barriers. Between the thermal barriers and the pressure vessel with end closures there are colder spaces. At least one connection, located in the lower part of the thermal barrier and provided with a valve between the space next to the pressure vessel and the space below the bottom thermal barrier, is provided with an externally controllable valve. In the upper part of the thermal barrier there is an opening with a relatively large cross section and a valve is provided for the opening, which comprises a heat-insulated portion.

Hot-isostatic high-pressure press

A press for shaping a sheet metal blank in a cavity with a forming tool which determines the shape of the finished product. The sheet is pressed against the tool by a diaphragm which is influenced by a pressure medium on the side facing away from the cavity. The forming tool consists of an inexpensive casting material supported in a cup-shaped container. The space between the bottom and sides of the container and the bottom and sides of the cavity is filled with an elastic material.

A press is adapted for the press tool it is to operate, by means of at least one pad of force-transmitting material formed in situ on a surface adapted to transmit the forming force to the press tool. The pad is formed by locating a tool substitute in the space intended for the tool, defining at least one volume between the tool substitute and the said surface adapted to transmit the forming force with a sealing means and injecting the pad forming material in liquid state into the said volume to allow the same to harden there preferably under a force equivalent to that which will be used in forming a blank when the substitute tool is replaced by the press tool.

A furnace for isostatic hot pressing includes a furnace compartment contained within a pressure chamber, the compartment being surrounded by a insulating sheath, comprising a cup-shaped insulating portion. Such portion comprises a supporting tube of graphite surrounded by a plurality of layers of carbon or of graphite fibers. Convection-preventing layers of graphite foils are disposed between the layers and between the innermost layer and the tube. The layers are maintained pressured against the tube and against one another by a plurality of surrounding graphite strands. A plurality of cover discs of foamed graphite having graphite foils on one side thereof are seated against upper ends of the layers and of the tube, the foils on the discs extending upwardly to lie against the peripheral end walls of the discs.
