Method and apparatus for providing a modular unit through a confined entryway. The modular unit includes portions that are foldable between a transit configuration and a deployed configuration. In the transit configuration, the modular unit can fit through the confined entryway. In the deployed configuration, the modular unit may not fit through the door, but can have larger dimensions. Once past the confined entryway, the foldable portions can be quickly moved to the deployed configuration and fixed in place with a small number of pins or other fasteners. In some instances, multiple modular units may be attached together to form a larger unit. The modular units can include foldable portions, and the modular units can be connected together with a relatively small number of fasteners.

In an example, a system includes a bracket and a fastener. The bracket includes a distal bracket portion defining an aperture. The aperture includes a first aperture section of a first width and a second aperture section of a second width. The second width is less than the first width. The bracket includes a proximal bracket portion extending from the distal bracket portion, a cavity defined by the distal bracket portion and the proximal bracket portion, and a magnet in the cavity and coupled to the proximal bracket portion. The fastener includes a stem extending from a first end to a second end. The first end is configured to couple to an object. The fastener includes a ferromagnetic retainer at the second end of the stem. The ferromagnetic retainer has a third width that is less than the first width and greater than the second width.

A system and method for exiting an overhead area in an aircraft. An egress apparatus is automatically moved from a closed state to an open state in response to opening a hatch that closes an opening in an overhead area in an aircraft. The apparatus comprises a platform attached to a substantially vertical structure by a first hinge structure. A guide panel is attached to the platform by a second hinge structure. The apparatus is configured to be moved from a closed state to an open state. The platform extends outward from the substantially vertical structure and under the opening in an overhead area in an aircraft when the apparatus is the open state. The guide panel extends upward from the platform when the apparatus is in the open state.

A system and method for managing a desired part. A manufacturing system comprises a product lifecycle management tool configured to retrieve from a database based on a number of search parameters. The product lifecycle management tool is further configured to define, for each of retrieved part models, a prism having a volume that contains a volume of a part corresponding to the each of the retrieved part models. The product lifecycle management tool is further configured to display on a display system an assembly model including a three-dimensional view of candidate parts using the retrieved part models arranged in positions relative to each other. The candidate parts in the three-dimensional view are displayed in a side-by-side configuration in an order based on a number of characteristics of each prism such that a part model that most closely matches the desired part may be identified and selected for reuse.

A method and apparatus for forming a bend in composite panel. A method for forming a bend in a composite panel comprises forming a slot having a curved flange in the composite panel, inserting a sheet into the curved flange, and bending the composite panel with the slot and the sheet within the curved flange about a longitudinal axis of the slot to form the bend.

A mounting system may be installed in an aircraft, such as by installing a first plate and a second plate on either side of a sandwich panel wall in a personal space of an aircraft. The first plate and second plate may be coupled together, and a structural interface may receive a mounting accessory such that it is positioned adjacent the first plate. A personal electronic device may be mounted to the mounting accessory, thereby facilitating use of the personal electronic device on-board the aircraft. Such a mounting system may facilitate the use of personal electronic devices in lieu of costly in-flight entertainment systems. The first plate and second plate may be secured to a honeycomb core sandwich panel, such that fasteners may extend through inserts extending through the core, thereby distributing the weight of the personal electronic device and mounting accessory via the first plate and second plate.

There is provided a decorative laminate having a first laminate layer, a second laminate layer, and a decorative layer disposed selectively between the first laminate layer and the second laminate layer. The decorative layer includes one or more visible materials, and one or more non-visible light activated materials that change from a non-visible state to a visible state when exposed to a light source. The light source includes an ultraviolet (UV) light source or an infrared (IR) light source. The decorative laminate further has a resin layer disposed on the second laminate layer. The first laminate layer, the decorative layer, the second laminate layer, and the resin layer are laminated together to form the decorative laminate configured for application to a structural component.

Cart control systems and methods of controlling cart caster direction allow for operation of carts near walls without caster jamming. Cart control systems comprise a cart with one or more swivel casters, a wall, and a guide surface proximate the wall that is configured to swivel outwardly at least one of the swivel casters to be directed toward the wall when the swivel caster traverses the guide surface in a direction substantially parallel to the wall. When the caster is directed toward the wall, the floor contact of the caster is further away from the wall than the swivel axis of the caster and generally under the cart. When reversing direction, the caster swivels outwardly, with the floor contact remaining further away from the wall and generally under the cart. Thus, the caster does not swivel into the wall and jam the cart.

Cart control systems and methods for controlling cart caster direction

A system and method for exiting a crew rest area located in an overhead area in an aircraft. An opening in the crew rest area is located in an overhead area in the aircraft. An egress apparatus is configured to move between a closed state and an open state. The egress apparatus is configured to direct a person moving on the egress apparatus from the opening to a passenger cabin in the aircraft when the egress apparatus is in the open state.
