Phosphate-containing copolymers, medical compositions containing the phosphate-containing copolymers, and methods of suppressing microbial virulence are provided. By suppressing virulence, administration and/or application of the medical compositions can be used to prevent, mitigate, or treat a microbial infection. The phosphate-containing copolymers are prepared by phosphorylating either a random copolymer or a random copolymeric block that contains monomeric units of propylene oxide and glycidol.

Phosphate-containing copolymers for virulence suppression

Amphiphilic triblock copolymers, articles containing the amphiphilic triblock copolymers, and methods of making these block copolymers provided. The amphiphilic triblock copolymers contain a first block (an A block) derived from isoprene, a second block (a B block) derived from a vinyl aromatic such as styrene, and a third block (a C block) derived from butadiene that have been subjected to hydrosilylation.

Polycarbonate polymers comprising non-aromatic cyclic groups bonded with carbonate linking groups are described. A portion of the non-aromatic cyclic groups comprise a substituent having siloxane repeat units. Representative formulas of the substituents having siloxane repeat units include —CH—CH—Si(R)—(OSi(R)—R, and —CH[Si(R)—(OSi(R))—R]—CH; wherein m is the number of siloxane repeat units; and Rand Rare independently alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or aralkylene. The polycarbonate polymer C typically comprises a high concentration of carbonate linking group, for example in an amount of at least 85 or 90 mol % or greater N based on the total linking groups of the polymer. A porous membrane includes a triblock copolymer of the formula ABC. B is a hydrogenated vinyl aromatic block present in a range from 30 to 90 weight percent, based on the total weight of the copolymer and has a Tof &#x2265;110&#xb0; C. C is a rubbery block present in a range from 10 to 70 weight percent, based on the total weight of the copolymer and has a T&#x2264;25&#xb0; C. A is substantially incompatible with both the B and C blocks and is derived from ring-opening polymerization. B+C is present in a range from 70 to 95 weight percent, based on the total weight of the copolymer.

The present disclosure provides a porous membrane made of pentablock copolymer. The porous membrane includes an ABCBA block copolymer and has a number of pores. The A block is immiscible with each of the B block and the C block, the B block has a glass transition temperature (T) of 90 degrees Celsius or greater, and the C block has a Tof 25 degrees Celsius or less. The A block comprises a poly(alkylene oxide), a substituted epoxide, a polylactam, or a substituted carbonate; B block comprises a vinyl aromatic monomer or a polyalkylmethacrylate and C block comprises a polyacrylate, a polysiloxane or a polyisoprene. A method of making a porous membrane is also provided. The method includes forming a film or a hollow fiber from a solution including a solvent and solids containing an ABCBA block copolymer. The method further includes removing at least a portion of the solvent from the film or the hollow fiber and contacting the film or the hollow fiber with a nonsolvent.

Novel pentablock polymers of the formula ABCBA are provided wherein C is a glassy aromatic block having a Tg of &#x3e;70&#xb0; C.; B is a rubber block having a Tg&#x3c;25&#xb0; C.; and A is a block incompatible with the B and C blocks and derived from ring-opening polymerization of cyclic monomers.
