A filtration system comprises a housing having a first housing end and a second housing end. The housing defines a central compartment therein. The housing includes an alignment tab disposed on the second housing end. The alignment tab protrudes from the second housing end towards the first housing end. A filter element is positioned within the housing. The filter element includes a first endcap, a second endcap, and filter media positioned between and extending axially between the first endcap and the second endcap. The filter media defines a central opening extending axially therein. An alignment notch is disposed on the second endcap, the alignment notch protruding from the second endcap toward the first endcap.

A fluid filter assembly having a filter cartridge and housing interface to indicate whether a replacement filter cartridge is proper and desirable for the fluid filter assembly. A substantially cylindrical interface is connected to and extends from the filter cartridge and is matingly received by a bore provided in a boss of a housing of the fluid filter assembly. A means for indicating at least one characteristic of the filter cartridge is provided to ensure the replacement filter cartridge is proper and desirable for the fluid filter assembly.

A filter system includes a designated filter element including a geometric projection thereon and a filter element housing including an opening keyed to the geometric projection. The opening comprises a recess, a channel or a slot and the recess, the channel, or the slot includes a rib. The geometric projection engages the opening when the designated filter element is installed in the filter element housing, and the filter element housing includes a filter housing body and a filter housing cover.

A fuel water separator (FWS) filter that is configured to permit water to be drained from the water sump of the FWS filter without shutting off fuel flow to the FWS filter. A check valve is positioned between the water sump and the filter element. When the FWS filter is under vacuum (e.g. as in operation), the check valve can be closed to allow water to drain from the sump. The check valve can close automatically by floating on accumulated water in the sump until the water rises to a level where the check valve is closed. The check valve can also close by opening the drain valve of the FWS filter, which causes a differential pressure between the sump and the vacuum created in the filter element chamber, which forces the check valve to close.

Improvements to 'no filter, no run' fluid filtration systems are described. In one example, a filter includes a movable pin cage that has a first pre-installation position adjacent the bottom end plate and is temporarily connected thereto by a snap connection system, and a second position adjacent the upper end plate where it performs a valve interaction function. In another example, a filter includes non-centered valve pins that are rotatable relative to an upper end plate of the filter.

A parallel flow filter-in-filter design for a filter system is provided. The filter-in-filter design provides two distinctly parallel or independent flow paths within a filter assembly in a single housing or shell. The filter assembly includes a first outer filter element radially spaced apart from a second inner filter element. A centertube and a funnel shaped passageway housed within the centertube are provided in a space between the first outer filter element and the second inner filter element. The centertube and funnel shaped passageway work in tandem to provide two distinct parallel or independent flow paths within the filter assembly. The funnel shaped passageway is provided generally below the second inner filter element within the centertube.

A fluid filter includes a filter element having a filtering media disposed between two endplates. One endplate includes an open flow passage that allows a working fluid to flow into or out of the media during operation. The other endplate includes a connection structure. A cover houses the filter element, and has an opening that is an inlet or outlet in fluid communication with the opening of the one endplate. The cover includes another fill opening proximate the other endplate. A cap is connected to the connection structure of the other endplate to close the opening of the cover. The cover is retained between the cap and other endplate. Generally, the attachment configuration between the cap and the other endplate of the filter element helps ensure that the filter element with the correct micron rating is installed in a filtration system.

A centrifuge for separating out particulate matter from a fluid includes a rotor shell that is rotatably coupled to a shaft through a first bushing and a second bushing. The shaft includes a first shaft section that is detachably coupled to a second shaft section in order to make maintenance and assembly of the centrifuge easier by reducing the shaft clearance needed during disassembly and assembly of the centrifuge. The first shaft section includes a first bushing race around which the first bushing is rotatably received. The second shaft section includes an integrally formed bushing collar for supporting the second bushing and a second bushing race around which the second bushing is rotatably received. With such a construction, the size of the bushings in the centrifuge can be minimized, which in turn increases the operational speed of the centrifuge, thereby enhancing the particulate removal efficiency in the centrifuge.
