An aqueous polymer blend composition including a predominant amount of soft polymer particles and a minor amount of hard polymer particles is provided. The soft polymer particles contain, as copolymerized units, 70 to 99.7% by weight monoethylenically unsaturated (meth)acrylic monomer and from 0.3 to 10% by weight monoethylenically unsaturated acid monomer, based on weight of soft polymer particles. The soft polymer particles are made by a select process including redox polymerization or polymerization in the presence of excess unreacted monomer. The aqueous polymer blend composition is useful for preparing dry coatings having improved dirt pickup resistance and acceptable scrub resistance. A method is provided for preparing a dry coating from the aqueous polymer blend composition.

The present invention relates to fast drying waterborne printing inks and to method of using such inks in high speed printing processes, such rotogravure and flexographic printing processes. The printing ink includes, for example, a blend of a latex binder and a polyfunctional amine. The pH of the ink is raised by adding a sufficient amount of base, to a point where essentially all of the polyfunctional amine in the blend is in a deprotonated state.

The composition having wet state clarity includes an aqueous latex binder combination of polymer particles with a diameter of less than 80 nanometers and a thickener. When glitter flakes are dispersed in these novel compositions in their wet state, they glitter more than conventional glitter compositions. Thus, they are more appealing to a consumer or an artist than conventional glitter compositions that tend to be cloudy or dull in their wet state.

A method for reducing the amount of microfoam in a spray-applied clear waterborne thermoset composition is provided, wherein the clear composition contains an emulsion-polymerized addition polymers or a multi-staged emulsion-polymerized addition polymers with an average particle diameter greater than about 120 nanometers and bearing at least two first reactive groups and a reactive modifier bearing at least two reactive groups is formed; is spray-applied to a substrate; and is cured. Also provided are substrates bearing such spray-applied clear compositions.

Method for reducing microfoam in a spray-applied waterborne thermoset

A waterborne coating composition containing an aqueous dispersion of a polymer, the polymer being substantially free from hydroxyl, primary amino, and secondary amino groups and the polymer bearing at least two active methylene groups, and an aqueous dispersion of a polyisocyanate bearing at least two isocyanate groups is provided. Also provided is a method of improving the chemical resistance of a coating and a substrate coated with the waterborne coating composition.
