A method for improving the signal to noise ratio of an EEG signal in which a wavelet packet decomposition having a plurality of levels is first applied to a time slice of the EEG signal. A default signal is set to the first wavelet packet and a default peak response is then calculated for the first wavelet node. An update signal is set to the default signal combined with another of the wavelet nodes and an update peak response signal is then calculated of the update signal. If the update peak response signal exceeds the default peak response, the default peak response is set equal to the update peak response and the default signal is set equal to the update signal. Otherwise, the value of the current node is set to zero which effectively eliminates the signal data of the current wavelet node. These steps are reiterated for all of the wavelet nodes and, thereafter, a composite waveform of the EEG signal is reconstructed from the non-zero wavelet nodes.

Method for improving the signal to noise ratio of a wave form

Systems and methods are disclosed for computing a power spectral density of a signal. One such method computes a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of a first signal segment and an FFT of a second signal segment. The first and second segments are adjacent and non-overlapping in time, and the second segment follows the first. The first FFT is multiplied by a complex conjugate of the second FFT. A first complex value is computed from this first product. An FFT of a third signal segment is computed. The second and third segments are adjacent and non-overlapping in time. The third segment follows the second segment. The second FFT is multiplied by a complex conjugate of the third FFT. A second complex value is computed from this second product. The first and second complex values are added, and the power spectral density of the sum is computed.

System and method for detecting a weak signal in a noisy environment

A patch antenna system and method comprising a base extending in a first plane; at least one patch mounted in a plane substantially parallel to the first plane; spaced from the base by at least one metallic post such that between the base and patch is substantially only gaseous fluid (which may be air). At least one power source may be operatively connected to the at least one patch for generation of electromagnetic waves at a center frequency of approximately 5.8 Gigahertz. The method of neutralizing unattended microwave devices comprises connecting a power source to a patch antenna and operating the patch antenna at a frequency in the range of approximately 3.89 to of 5.85 Gigahertz in the vicinity of a suspected unattended microwave device used to activate an explosive device to thereby jam any communication signal to the unattended microwave device and prevent the activation.

High efficiency and high power patch antenna and method of using

A patch array antenna is disclosed. The patch array antenna includes a ground plane with two patches. Each patch is supported from the ground plane only by metal posts. The patch array antenna further includes two-pin-feed probes, each pin-feed probe coupled to one patch, and a two-way high power divider attached to both pin-feed probes.
