An apparatus for wireless communication includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to send a data session establishment request to establish a data session with a network device using a wireless communication network. The data session establishment request has a first field to indicate a requested network slice for the data session. The processor is further to receive an indication of a granted network slice for the data session and to receive an indication of a back-off timer value from the network device. The processor is further configured, after expiration of a back-off timer based on the back-off timer value, to send a first message associated with the granted network slice and to send a second message having a second field corresponding to the first field of the data session establishment request.

Management of Default Data Subscription (DDS) in multi-subscriber identity module devices

In a wireless network, a user equipment (UE) may support reflective quality of service (QoS), where QoS applied to uplink packets is implicitly derived from downlink packets. For example, when the UE receives a downlink packet that includes a reflective QoS (RQoS) indicator and a QoS flow identifier (QFI), the UE may apply the same QoS associated with the downlink packet to an uplink packet with one or more attributes that match the downlink packet. However, for a received downlink encapsulating security payload (ESP) packet that includes an RQoS indicator and a QFI, a modem cannot determine an uplink security parameters index (SPI) and downlink SPI pairing needed to enable RQoS because the uplink/downlink SPI pairing is known only by the upper layer. Accordingly, some aspects described herein enable the modem to learn uplink/downlink SPI pairings for ESP packets and thereby enable RQoS for ESP packets.

Reflective quality of service for encapsulating security payload packets

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may start, at a default data subscription (DDS) of the UE, a timer associated with a non-Third Generation Partnership Project (non-3GPP) tunnel over a cellular network based at least in part on a DDS switching at the UE. The UE may determine, at the DDS, that the non-3GPP tunnel over the cellular network is available prior to an expiry of the timer. The UE may perform a handover of a non-3GPP tunnel over data connection to the DDS based at least in part on the DDS switching at the UE and the non-3GPP tunnel over the cellular network being available prior to the expiry of the timer. Numerous other aspects are described.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide apparatus, methods, processing systems, and computer readable mediums for updating QoS configurations at a user equipment (UE). An example method generally includes receiving, from a network entity, quality of service (QoS) information, a QoS identifier associated with the QoS information, and a bearer context associated with the QoS information in one of a modify bearer context request message, an activate default bearer context request message, or an activate dedicated bearer context request message; and updating a QoS configuration using the QoS information based on whether the UE is already configured with QoS information associated with the QoS identifier for a bearer context different from the bearer context associated with the QoS information received in the modify bearer context request message, activate default bearer context request message, or activate dedicated bearer context request message.

Processing mapped 5G system (5GS) quality of service (QoS) information in evolved packet system (EPS)

Wireless communication methods, devices, and systems to reduce latency when network access (e.g., cellular network access) is barred are described. A method includes receiving, by a user equipment (UE) from an application, a request for at least one of establishment of a packet data unit (PDU) session or uplink (UL) data transfer via a previously established PDU session. The method additionally includes evaluating that access to a first network (e.g., a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network) is barred. The method also includes determining that the access barring time exceeds a threshold, and checking, in response to the determining, that configured policies permit the PDU session to be on a second network (e.g., a non-3GPP network). The method further includes transferring data of the PDU session in accordance with the configured policies. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

Reducing data latency when cellular access is barred

The present disclosure provides user equipment power consumption and secondary cell (SCell) activation latency reductions in wireless communication systems. For example, a UE may determine that a secondary cell activation condition has been satisfied. The UE may further transition to a secondary cell activated state based on determining that the secondary cell activation condition has been satisfied, the secondary cell activate state corresponding to a dormant SCell state. The UE may operate at least in the dormant SCell state.

User equipment power consumption and secondary cell activation latency reductions in a wireless communication system

Methods and apparatuses for serving cell management of a user equipment (UE) are presented. Particularly, methods and apparatuses are presented for suppressing a serving cell change based on a speed of the UE. For instance, an example method is presented for serving cell management that may include determining that a serving cell change condition exists for an initiation of a serving cell change for the UE, wherein the serving cell change comprises changing a serving cell of the UE from a macro cell to a low power cell. In addition, the example method may include obtaining a speed of the UE and suppressing the initiation of the serving cell change based on the speed of the UE.

A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus transmits, by a user equipment (UE), a packet to a network entity, while the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) connected mode. The apparatus determines an acknowledgment (ACK) is absent for the transmitted packet. The apparatus determines to retransmit the packet based at least on whether the UE is in the RRC connected mode or on a type of the packet, upon determining the ACK is absent. The apparatus may determine to retransmit the packet by retransmitting the packet upon determining the UE is in the RRC connected mode. The apparatus may determine to retransmit the packet by suppressing retransmission of the packet upon determining that the UE is not in the RRC connected mode.

Methods, systems, and devices are described for determining a quality estimation of a wireless network that may be used to determine whether a particular wireless network meets one or more criteria for association with a station. The quality estimation may be based on a load quality of a basic service set (BSS) of an available wireless network and/or one or more wide area network (WAN) metrics associated with the wireless network. A station may evaluate such load quality and WAN metrics prior to association, and/or after association with a wireless network.
