A cathode configured for a solid-state battery includes a body having grains of inorganic material sintered to one another, wherein the grains comprise lithium. A thickness of the body is from 3 μm to 100 μm. The first major surface and the second major surface have an unpolished granular profile such that the profile includes grains protruding outward from the respective major surface with a height of at least 25 nm and no more than 150 μm relative to recessed portions of the respective major surface at boundaries between the respective grains.

A cordierite-containing ceramic body with % P≥50%, df≤0.50, and a combined weight percentage of crystalline phases containing cordierite and indialite of at least 85 wt %. The porous ceramic body contains, as expressed on a relative oxide weight percent basis in terms of MgO, AlO, and SiOthat is within a field defined by (15.4, 34.1, and 50.5), (12.2, 34.1, and 53.7), (13.3, 31.2, and 55.5), and (16.6, 31.1, and 52.3). A process of forming a sintered article includes heating a green portion of a tape of polycrystalline ceramic and/or minerals in organic binder at a binder removal zone to a temperature sufficient to pyrolyze the binder; horizontally conveying the portion of tape with organic binder removed from the binder removal zone to a sintering zone; and sintering polycrystalline ceramic and/or minerals of the portion of tape at the sintering zone, wherein the tape simultaneously extends through the removal and sintering zones.

A ceramic body exhibiting % P≥50%, df≤0.36, and a combined weight percentage of crystalline phases containing cordierite and indialite of at least 85 wt %, and up to 10 wt % of a crystalline pseudobrookite structured phase, such as armalcolite. The ceramic body contains, as expressed on an oxide basis, either: 1% wt % to 11% wt % titania and 89% wt % to 99% wt % MgO, AlO, and SiOthat have relative weight ratios of MgO:AlO:SiOwithin the field defined by 15.6:34.0:50.4, 12.6:34.0:53.4, 13.9:30.7:55.4, and 16.9:30.7:52.4, or 2.5% to 11% titania and 89% wt % to 97.5% wt % MgO, AlO, and SiOthat have relative weight ratios of MgO:AlO:SiOwithin the field defined by 15.6:34.0:50.4, 12.6:34.0:53.4, 12.0:35.7:52.3, and 15.0:35.7:49.3. Cordierite-indialite-pseudobrookite structured ceramic bodies, batch composition mixtures, and methods of manufacturing ceramic bodies therefrom

Methods of making a sintered electrode comprise forming a slurry including 40 wt % to 75 wt % of a powder comprising a chalcogenide and at least one of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, 1 wt % to 10 wt % of a binder, and 30 wt % to 50 wt % of a solvent. Methods include casting the slurry into a green tape. Methods include drying the green tape to form a dried green tape by removing at least a portion of the solvent. The dried green tape includes at most 10 wt % of organic material in the dried green tape. Methods include sintering the dried green tape at a temperature from 500&#xb0; C. to 1350&#xb0; C. for no more than 60 minutes to form the sintered electrode.

Sintered electrodes for batteries and method of preparing same

A method for forming a sintered composition including providing a slurry precursor including a lithium-, sodium-, or magnesium-based compound; tape casting the slurry precursor to form a green tape; and sintering the green tape at a temperature in a range of 500&#xb0; C. to 1350&#xb0; C. for a time in a range of less than 60 min to form a sintered composition, such that the slurry precursor further includes a solvent and dispersant. The dispersant may include an amine compound, a carboxylic acid compound, or combinations, mixtures, or salts thereof.

Electrolyte for a solid-state battery includes a body having grains of inorganic material sintered to one another, where the grains include lithium. The body is thin, has little porosity by volume, and has high ionic conductivity.

Electrolyte for a solid-state battery

An energy device has an electrode including lithium cobaltite (LCO) grains, where the LCO grains are sintered to one another forming a self-supporting sheet with porous passages. The porous passages wind and branch through the sheet. The energy device further includes a solid electrolyte comprising lithium phosphosulfide (LPS) overlaying a major surface of the sheet and extending into the porous passages. The sheet serves as mechanical support for the solid electrolyte, allowing for high temperature joining of the LPS to the LCO without binder in the LPS.

A system, process and related sintered article are provided. The process includes supporting a piece of inorganic material with a pressurized gas and sintering the piece of inorganic material while supported by the pressurized gas by heating the piece of inorganic material to a temperature at or above a sintering temperature of the inorganic material such that the inorganic material is at least partially sintered forming the sintered article. The inorganic material is not in contact with a solid support during sintering. The sintered article, such as a ceramic article, is thin, has high surface quality, and/or has large surface areas.
