A cement composition for application to a ceramic substrate, such as a cement skin composition for application to a ceramic honeycomb body is provided. The cement composition includes a first source of inorganic particles having a mean particle diameter <50 nm, wherein the first source of inorganic particles is present at about <15% (by dry weight), a second source of inorganic particles having a mean particle diameter of from about 50 nm to about 700 nm, wherein the second source of inorganic particles is present at from about 5% to about 15% (by dry weight), and a water-soluble organic binder. An inorganic fibrous material can be present at about <15% (based on dry weight). The amount of at least one of the first source of inorganic particles or the inorganic fibrous material is greater than 0% (by dry weight).

A cathode configured for a solid-state battery includes a body having grains of inorganic material sintered to one another, wherein the grains comprise lithium. A thickness of the body is from 3 μm to 100 μm. The first major surface and the second major surface have an unpolished granular profile such that the profile includes grains protruding outward from the respective major surface with a height of at least 25 nm and no more than 150 μm relative to recessed portions of the respective major surface at boundaries between the respective grains.

A process of forming a sintered article includes heating a green portion of a tape of polycrystalline ceramic and/or minerals in organic binder at a binder removal zone to a temperature sufficient to pyrolyze the binder; horizontally conveying the portion of tape with organic binder removed from the binder removal zone to a sintering zone; and sintering polycrystalline ceramic and/or minerals of the portion of tape at the sintering zone, wherein the tape simultaneously extends through the removal and sintering zones.

Methods of making a sintered electrode comprise forming a slurry including 40 wt % to 75 wt % of a powder comprising a chalcogenide and at least one of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, 1 wt % to 10 wt % of a binder, and 30 wt % to 50 wt % of a solvent. Methods include casting the slurry into a green tape. Methods include drying the green tape to form a dried green tape by removing at least a portion of the solvent. The dried green tape includes at most 10 wt % of organic material in the dried green tape. Methods include sintering the dried green tape at a temperature from 500&#xb0; C. to 1350&#xb0; C. for no more than 60 minutes to form the sintered electrode.

A method for forming a sintered composition including providing a slurry precursor including a lithium-, sodium-, or magnesium-based compound; tape casting the slurry precursor to form a green tape; and sintering the green tape at a temperature in a range of 500&#xb0; C. to 1350&#xb0; C. for a time in a range of less than 60 min to form a sintered composition, such that the slurry precursor further includes a solvent and dispersant. An energy device has an electrode including lithium cobaltite (LCO) grains, where the LCO grains are sintered to one another forming a self-supporting sheet with porous passages. The porous passages wind and branch through the sheet. The energy device further includes a solid electrolyte comprising lithium phosphosulfide (LPS) overlaying a major surface of the sheet and extending into the porous passages. The sheet serves as mechanical support for the solid electrolyte, allowing for high temperature joining of the LPS to the LCO without binder in the LPS.
