An application architecture comprises one or more audio interfaces placed within the premises of users. A cloud-based application engine receives audio information from the interfaces and provides information to cloud-based applications based on the audio within the user premises. The other applications utilize the information to provide or enhance services to the users.

Disclosed systems and methods provide media content through an electronic commerce server. In one implementation, a method for providing electronic content is provided. The method includes receiving an order of a user. The order of the user may comprise a request of the user for a physical copy of media content. The commerce server may determine whether to provide to the user an electronic copy of the media content based at least on the order. Further, a request to access the electronic copy of the media content is received from the user. The method further grants the user access to the electronic copy of the media content based at least on the request to access the electronic copy of the media content.

Providing electronic content in association with a request for physical content

Disclosed are various embodiments for selecting advertising for presentation to users in association with digital content items. Characteristics of a user are determined based at least in part on historical data that associates the user with one or more items. An advertisement is selected from an inventory of advertisements for presentation in association with a digital content item requested by the user. The advertisement is selected based at least in part on a highest value placed on the characteristics of the user by an advertiser.

Selecting advertising for presentation with digital content

Disclosed are various embodiments for selecting advertising for presentation to customers in association with digital content items. Characteristics of a customer are determined based at least in part on historical data that associates the customer with one or more items. An advertisement is selected from an inventory of advertisements for presentation in association with a digital content item requested by the customer. The advertisement is selected based at least in part on a highest value placed on the characteristics of the customer by an advertiser for a presentation of the advertisement to the customer.

Systems and methods enable users to exchange content, such as chat text, with other users that are consuming like video media. In one implementation, several users collectively group together to form a video session. The video media played during the video session may be selected by a vote of the users. The users in the video session each consume the same video media, and the video media is played on individual user computer devices in a synchronized manner. The users send chat text to one another over a network using a computer user interface. The chat text is superimposed over the synchronized video running on the individual user computer devices.

Adding interactive objects to content having a timeline at user-identified positions in the timeline. During subsequent rendering of the content, the interactive objects are presented to a user at the identified positions. The interactive objects represent an opportunity for the user to render additional content or perform a transaction.
