Disclosed implementations determine transient distortions, amplitude distortions, and/or periodic distortions present in a voltage signal measured from an electrical circuit at a location and use those distortions to determine a device type of a device operating on the electrical circuit at the location. In some examples, the voltage signal may be filtered into a plurality of sub-bands and one or more two-dimensional representations generated based on transient distortions, amplitude distortions, and/or periodic distortions determined in each sub-band. The one or more 2D representations may be provided to a deep neural network to determine a device type that generated the distortions on the electrical circuit.

Device type detection

Described implementations utilize existing power lines at a location to detect and monitor the presence, position, and/or identity of users at the location. Rather than requiring dedicated monitors within each room or position within the location, the described implementations monitor a baseline voltage signal and/or an introduced voltage signal on the ground line of an existing power line of the location to determine the presence, position, and/or identity of a user at the location, either alone or in combination with other information.

Presence detection through radio frequency emissions from an electrical circuit

Described implementations monitor potential voltage at a location to determine device usage at the location. The implementations utilize a plug-in energy sensor that is plugged directly into any electrical outlet at the location and measures deviation in voltage at the location. Once plugged into an electrical outlet, the plug-in energy sensor monitors one or more of the lead line and ground, the neutral line and ground, and/or the ground line with respect to a reference for changes in potential voltage at the location. Different devices and different device states of those devices generate different signatures of voltage as they operate, thereby making the signatures unique, or almost unique, to different device types, different devices, and/or different device states. By monitoring for signatures in the voltage, operation of devices in different device states at the location can be determined, along with start times and stop times of those states associated with the various devices.

Plug-in energy sensor

Described is an apparatus to concurrently measure multiple input voltages at a high sampling data rate, such as at least two mega-samples per second. The apparatus may include a plurality of voltage data acquisition components that concurrently sample different input voltages and produce respective voltage data samples. Each of the plurality of voltage data acquisition components may be directly coupled to a field programmable gate array that receives the voltage data samples, packetizes those voltage data samples, and provide the packetized voltage data samples to a system on chip.

Synchronous voltage signature data collection apparatus

Described implementations monitor potential voltage at a location to determine device usage at the location. The implementations utilize a plug-in energy sensor that is plugged directly into any electrical outlet at the location and measures deviation in voltage at the location. Once plugged into an electrical outlet, the plug-in energy sensor monitors one or more of the positive line and ground and/or the neutral line and ground for changes in potential voltage at the location. The plug-in energy sensor may also inject a load (resistive load, inductive load, capacitive load) into the electrical circuit at the location and then measure the signal or response to the injected load.
