A new power plant cycle that does not condense the vapor leaving the turbine facilitated by an innovative vapor compression apparatus to repressurize the vapor with heat input to the cycle from a new renewable energy or other heat source. The new cycle can be used in place of the conventional low efficiency Rankine cycle to provide economical production of electricity. Using the cycle with heat input from a fossil fuel would reduce air pollution from this source to a fraction of current emissions.

A system and method for generating excess heat through the process of chemical looping combustion. A volume of a first metal oxide is provided. The first metal oxide is reacted with an acid solution to create a reaction solution that contains metal hydroxide. The metal hydroxide is precipitated from the reaction solution. This produces particles of metal hydroxide. The particles of metal hydroxide are separated from the reaction solution, which is regenerated. The particles of metal hydroxide are then reacted with heat to produce a less complex second metal oxide. The second metal oxide is reacted with oxygen in a confined chamber. As the second metal oxide oxidizes, it releases heat. The heat released is greater than the heat needed to operate the system. The heat can be utilized to produce steam or otherwise meet the energy needs of the operator.

System and method for generating power using a chemical looping combustion reaction

A unique method and ternary cycle process that captures heat from low temperature sources currently considered not commercially usable to produce electricity and desalinate water. In one cycle a novel flash tower operating at vacuum pressure causes a fraction of low temperature water to flash into steam. The steam passes to an indirect heat exchanger with a circulating refrigerating agent such as CO, which condenses the steam on its outside surfaces to produce desalinated water product. The steam heat of condensation vaporizes the refrigerating agent, which is part of a binary refrigerate cycle that uniquely conditions it for turbine expansion to produce electricity in a connected electric generator.

Process and method using low temperature sources to produce electric power and desalinate water

A cyclical system that uses a metal hydroxide to produce a metal carbonate, remove carbon dioxide from a waste gas source, and produce more metal hydroxide needed for the beginning of the cycle. Initially, the metal hydroxide is mixed with waste gases in a carbon dioxide scrubber. The scrubber reacts the carbon dioxide with the metal hydroxide to produce a metal carbonate. Some of the metal carbon is removed, therein removing carbon dioxide from the environment. Some of the metal carbonate is heated to produce metal oxide and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is drawn away. Oxygen is introduced into the reaction chamber. The oxygen reacts with the metal oxide to produce an oxidized metal oxide and heat. The oxidized metal oxide is reduced with an acid and volatile base to produce metal hydroxide. The metal hydroxide is recycled. The acid is regenerated. The volatile base is recovered and recycled.

Cyclical system and method for removing and storing carbon dioxide obtained from a waste gas source

The invention provides a system for converting urea into reactants useful for removing NOfrom industrial emissions. The system includes a urea inlet, a steam inlet, and a reactor in fluid communication with the urea inlet and the steam inlet. The reactor is configured and adapted to inject urea from the urea inlet into a steam flow from the steam inlet to convert the urea into at least one reactant for NOreduction within a substantially gaseous mixture. The invention also provides a method of converting urea into reactants for reducing NOout of industrial emissions. The method includes injecting urea into a steam flow to convert the urea into at least one reactant for NOreduction within a substantially gaseous mixture.

The present invention provides a rechargeable electrochemical battery cell which has self-charging capabilities. Specifically, the cell comprises two chambers interconnected with a tubing and a valve; each chamber further comprising a top closure, a positive contact disposed through said top closure, a cathode in electrical contact with said positive contact, a liquid metal anode disposed in the chamber at the bottom, a negative contact disposed through the bottom of the chamber and in electrical contact with said liquid metal anode, and a non-aqueous molten salt electrolyte disposed within the chamber. At a first temperature, a first electrochemical reaction occurs within the first chamber between the non-aqueous molten salt electrolyte and the liquid metal anode wherein the cation from the non-aqueous molten salt electrolyte reduces to form the liquid metal anode and the first liquid metal anode becomes the cation in the non-aqueous molten salt electrolyte. The new liquid metal anode and new molten salt electrolyte are transferred to the second chamber and reacted at a second temperature to produce an electrochemical reaction that is the reverse of the first electrochemical reaction. After each reaction, the electrical energy from the reaction is discharged to a load. A method of operating the self-charging, medium level energy density electrochemical cell is disclosed in the invention. Additionally, the self-charging electrochemical cell can be combined with at least one other self-charging electrochemical cell to form a battery bank, the structure and method of operation of which are disclosed herein.

A method of supporting the spiral boiler tubing that surrounds a portion of the furnace or combustion area of a steam generator. This method of support eliminates the need to weld plate to the outside of the boiler tubing thereby increasing the mass of the boiler tubing which will result in the creation of temperature differentials within the spiral tubing. In accordance with this invention, a plurality of support members are inserted within and alongside the regular spiral tubing forming a part of the furnace enclosure. These support members are periodically removed from within the plane of this furnace enclosure and re-positioned to another (usually more elevated) position within the furnace enclosure. As the support members near the top of the spiral tubing (which is also the transition from the spiral tubing to more vertically aligned tubing), these support members are secured to this vertical tubing thereby transferring the loading of the spiral tubing to the vertical tubing. In other embodiments, it may be desirable to transfer the loading to other support members such as boiler top support steel.
