An electrical submersible pump assembly (ESP) has a centrifugal production pump with production pump stages. A gas separator upstream is from the production pump. A centrifugal charge pump is upstream from the gas separator. The charge pump has charge pump stages and a discharge that leads to an intake of the gas separator. Each of the production pump stages has a higher lifting capacity than each of the charge pump stages. The impellers of the production pump stages have vane exit angles greater than vane exit angles of the impellers of the charge pump stages.

A well production method uses side gas lift valves above a packer and an ESP below the packer. In a gas lift mode, a controller turns the ESP motor off, and shifts a tubing valve below the packer to a gas lift position while flowing gas down the casing. While in the gas lift mode, a pressure gauge monitors motor lubricant pressure, which correlates with a flowing bottom hole pressure of the well fluid in the lower casing annulus. In an ESP mode, the controller stops the flow of gas from the gas source, shifts the tubing valve to an ESP position and turns on the motor, causing well fluid to flow through the pump intake. The pressure gauge continues to monitor the lubricant pressure during the ESP mode.

Method and apparatus for producing well with backup gas lift and an electrical submersible well pump

A method for deploying a fiber optic line from a surface to a desired location in a wellbore includes the steps of identifying a heater cable deployed in the wellbore, where the heater cable includes one or more conductors and a first capillary tube. The method continues with the step of loading a terminal end of the fiber optic line into the first capillary tube from the surface. Next, the method includes the step of pumping a working fluid into the first capillary tube from the surface to inject the fiber optic line through a portion of the first capillary tube. The method concludes with the step of stopping the injection of the fiber optic line when the terminal end of the fiber optic line reaches the desired location in the wellbore.

A method of recovering resources from a resource bearing formation includes selectively injecting a fluid into the resource bearing formation through one or more injector wells, extracting a resource from the resource bearing formation through one or more production wells, receiving at a sweep pattern controller, an input from each of the one or more production wells indicating an amount of the resource extracted over a period of time, determining, in the sweep pattern controller, an adjusted sweep pattern for the formation that substantially equalizes production from each of the one or more production wells, and signaling each of the one or more injector wells, from the sweep pattern controller, to selectively inject the fluid to establish the adjusted sweep pattern in the formation.
