A tool for breaking tabs of a vertebral bone anchor can include a tip, a first rail, and a second rail. The tip can be positionable over a housing of a vertebral bone anchor. The first rail can be pivotably coupled to the tip and can extend proximally away from the tip. The first rail can be configured to receive a first extended tab therein. The first rail can be pivotable with respect to the tip between a first upright position and a first outward position to break the first extended tab from the housing. The second rail can be pivotably coupled to the tip and can extend proximally away from the tip.

Extended tab separation apparatus and method

A rod reduction instrument includes an inner sleeve, a first housing portion, a second housing portion, a plurality of engagement members, and a ratchet mechanism. The inner sleeve can include a threaded proximal portion and a distal end. The first housing portion can be positioned over at least a portion of the inner sleeve. The second housing portion can be positioned proximate to the distal end of the inner sleeve. The plurality of engagement members can be adapted to receive a pedicle screw, and are positionable within the second housing portion. The ratchet mechanism can include an engagement feature to selectively engage the threaded proximal portion of the inner sleeve, and a locking mechanism to selectively lock the engagement feature of the ratchet mechanism against the threaded proximal portion of the inner sleeve.

Ratcheting rapid rod reduction instrument

A rod reducer can comprise a reducing mechanism, a hinge mechanism, a handle mechanism and a bearing mechanism. The reducing mechanism can comprise a first elongate member extending along an axis to engage a bone anchor, and a second elongate member configured to slide along the first elongate member to engage a rod. The hinge mechanism can slidably couple the first and second elongate members such that the elongate members can translate against each other. The handle mechanism can comprise handles coupled to the hinge mechanism and configured to cause the first and second elongate members to translate relative to each other. The bearing mechanism can be configured to permit the handles to rotate about the axis independent of the elongate members. Methods of using the rotating rod reducer can include rotating the handles out of the way of adjacent levels of a spinal column being simultaneously reduced.

Rotating rod reducer

Spinal surgical procedures can benefit from a rod reduction instrument with a ratchet lock-out mechanism. The instrument can include an inner shaft, an outer housing and a ratchet mechanism. The inner shaft can include a threaded proximal portion and a distal end that includes a plurality of engagement members adapted to receive a pedicle screw. The outer housing can be slidably received over the inner shaft, and include a top sleeve and a bottom sleeve. The top sleeve can include the ratchet mechanism to selectively engage the threaded proximal portion of the inner shaft and the bottom sleeve can engage a connecting rod. The ratchet mechanism can include an engagement feature to selectively engage the threaded proximal portion of the inner shaft, and a locking mechanism to selectively lock the engagement feature of the ratchet mechanism against the threaded proximal portion of the inner shaft.

An anchor assembly can be couplable to a bone and can include an anchor and a housing. The anchor can include a shank securable to bone and a head coupled to a proximal portion of the shank.

Bone anchor

A rod reducer can comprise a reducing mechanism, a hinge mechanism, a handle mechanism and a bearing mechanism. The reducing mechanism can comprise a first elongate member extending along an axis to engage a bone anchor, and a second elongate member configured to slide along the first elongate member to engage a rod. An angled instrument assembly includes an angled sleeve, a driver shaft, and a tool bit. The angled sleeve includes a straight passage segment that meets an angled passage segment at a junction. The junction includes an inner elbow and an outer elbow. Material is removed from the inner surface of the inner elbow in order to improve the ease with which the driver shaft can be moved in and out of the angled sleeve. The assembly can also include drafted female or male engagement bodies for facilitating the engagement and disengagement of the tool bit with a tool bit engagement assembly located at the distal end of the driver shaft.

The described apparatus and method include a bone plating system comprising a plate longitudinally extending between a first plate end and a second plate end, wherein the plate further comprises a first plate surface spaced apart from an opposing second plate surface. Further, the bone plating system further includes a first spacer segment longitudinally extending between a first spacer end and a second spacer end, wherein the first spacer segment is shaped to adapt the plate to conform to an adjacent bone segment surface.
