A method and device of determining a fault condition in a synchronous motor including a rotor provided with damper bars and an end ring to which the damper bars are mechanically connected thereby forming a damper cage, wherein the method includes: obtaining a first measurement of an end ring current from a first location along the end ring, processing the first measurement to thereby obtain a processing result, and determining whether a fault condition is present in the synchronous motor based on the processing result.

Method and a diagnostics device for determining a fault condition in a synchronous motor

The present disclosure discloses a Condition Monitoring Device (CDM), configured to monitor power consumption and loading of motor. The CDM receives value of a measured current in a stator of the motor, and measures at least one of a magnetic flux around the motor and vibrations in the motor. The magnetic flux, the vibrations and the current in the stator are measured within a predefined time window. The CDM calculates various parameters of the motor and estimates a value of current using the measurements and rated parameters stored in the CDM. The estimated parameter of current is compared with the measured value of current. A value of rotor speed (one of the rated parameters) is varied until the value of the estimated current is approximately equal to the value of the measured current. The value of current is considered to monitor power consumption and loading of the motor.

In order to get rid of harmful shaft voltages in the form of sharp voltage peaks at high frequencies, it is first necessary to determine at which undesired frequency or frequencies these voltage peaks occur. Only thereafter can a low impedance grounding be provided that works satisfactorily at the undesired frequency or frequencies.

The present invention is concerned with a method for diagnosing the state of electromechanical systems in which electrical rotating machinery is used on the basis of analysis of impedance estimated from at least two currents and two voltages, measured during an operation of the electromechanical system. The invention combines the information from both the voltage and current signals measurable at the motor terminals. A missing stator slot wedge in an electrical machine can be detected by analyzing a current spectrum of the machine in a high frequency area. A current spectrum is provided from a current measurement, and values of the current spectrum in the high frequency area used to determine whether a stator slot wedge is missing or not. The conclusion can be based on values of a relative current amplitude Ior on presence of certain harmonics in the high frequency area.
