An electronic device includes a memory storing a plurality of fingerprint reference data files and one or more sensors identifying whether a mechanical support condition of the electronic device is a hand supported condition or a surface supported condition. A fingerprint sensor receives fingerprint data while the electronic device is in the mechanical support condition. One or more processors select a prioritized fingerprint data reference file from the plurality of fingerprint reference data files as a function of the mechanical support condition and authenticate an authorized user of the electronic device by comparing the fingerprint data to the prioritized fingerprint data reference file before comparing the fingerprint data to any other fingerprint reference data files of the plurality of fingerprint reference data files. The prioritized fingerprint reference data file can also be selected as a function of a geometric form factor of the electronic device.

Electronic devices and corresponding methods for enrolling fingerprint data and unlocking an electronic device

An electronic device includes a memory storing a plurality of fingerprint reference data files. One or more sensors identify whether a mechanical support condition of the electronic device is a hand supported condition or a surface supported condition. A fingerprint sensor receives fingerprint data. One or more processors select a prioritized fingerprint data reference file from the plurality of fingerprint reference data files as a function of the mechanical support condition and authenticate an authorized user of the electronic device by comparing the fingerprint data to the prioritized fingerprint data reference file before comparing the fingerprint data to another fingerprint reference data file of the plurality of fingerprint reference data files. The fingerprint sensor can be situated on a minor surface of the electronic device, on a rear major surface in a central location, on the rear major surface in an edge location, or in other locations.

One or more sensors of an electronic device detect a geometric form factor of the electronic device. A fingerprint sensor situated beneath a first display of the electronic device receives fingerprint data. One or more processors authenticate an authorized user of the electronic device using the fingerprint data with one or more processors. The one or more processors select between the first display and a second display of the electronic device as a function of the geometric form factor and unlock the selected display in response to authenticating the authorized user of the electronic device.

Electronic devices and corresponding methods for unlocking displays as a function of a device geometric form factor

A method in an electronic device comprises detecting, with one or more sensors, a geometry or geometric form factor of the electronic device. One or more processors then enable, in response to detecting the geometric form factor, a dual content presentation mode of operation allowing presentation of first content on a first display of the electronic device and second content on a second display where the first content and the second content are different.

Methods and electronic devices enabling a dual content presentation mode of operation

In aspects of managing quickview content for a multi-display device, the multi-display device has a primary display screen to display digital image content and a secondary display screen to display quickview content. The multi-display device implements a content control module to determine a context that indicates a characteristic of the digital image content displayed on the primary display screen. The content control module also determines the quickview content to display on the secondary display screen based on the context of the digital image content displayed on the primary display screen. The content control module then initiates displaying the quickview content on the secondary display screen. The content control module can also detect at least one individual in a region from which a secondary display screen of the multi-display device is viewable, and activate the secondary display screen in response to the individual being detected.

Manage quickview content for a multi-display device

A method in an electronic device comprises detecting, with one or more sensors, a geometry or geometric form factor defined by an amount a first device housing or first device housing portion of the electronic device is pivoted about a hinge or deformable portion relative to a second device housing or second device housing portion of the electronic device, as well as also detecting, with one or more other sensors, multiple persons within an environment of the electronic device. An electronic device includes a first device housing coupled to a second device housing by a hinge such that the first device housing is pivotable about the hinge between an axially displaced open position and a closed position. An exterior display is coupled to the electronic device and is exposed when the electronic device is in the closed position. At least one interior display is coupled to electronic device and is concealed when the electronic device is in the axially displaced open position. One or more processors detect user input interacting with two or more notifications presented on the exterior display. When the electronic device transitions to the axially displaced open position, the one or more processors present two or more interactive application portals of two or more predefined applications associated with the two or more notifications on the at least one interior display.
