An optical media access device with image scanning function is provided. The optical media access device comprises a fixed housing mountable into a computer; a moveable housing moveably disposed within the fixed housing; a first driving mechanism used to drive the moveable housing to move within the fixed housing; an optical media access module disposed within the moveable housing, having an optical head, an optical head driving mechanism; a tray for holding an optical disc, a second driving mechanism to drive the tray, and a rotating mechanism to rotate the optical disc; a control panel mounted at the front end of the moveable housing, having a plurality of keys to control the actions of the optical media access device; a scanning module mounted closely to the front end of the movable housing to scan document images; and a control module for controlling the action of the optical media access module and the scanning module.

Optical media access device with image scanning function

A multi-purpose scanner that can be integrated into a computer. In one embodiment, the multi-purpose scanner functions as a desktop scanner. It includes a scanning engine and an external housing. The external housing substantially encapsulates the scanning engine to reduce electromagnetic interference to the scanning engine. In another embodiment, the multi-purpose scanner scans with scanning engine mechanically attached to the computer. The scanning engine includes an internal body, a chassis and a positioning assembly. The chassis holds the internal body, and the assembly moves the internal body relative to the chassis. In this embodiment, the scanner extends a part of the internal body out of the chassis in order to scan a medium. In a third embodiment, the multi-purpose scanner functions as a handheld scanner. The scanning engine includes a front-panel unit that is releasably attached to an engine unit. The third embodiment includes the engine unit and a back-housing compartment substantially encapsulating the engine unit to reduce electromagnetic interference coupled to the engine unit.

Multi-purpose scanner integrated into a computer

A scanning device includes a housing, a supporting tray provided in the housing, a first receiving face on the supporting tray for receiving a reflection-type original document to be scanned, a second receiving face on the supporting tray for receiving a transparent original document to be scanned, a mechanism for moving the supporting tray into and out of the housing, and scanning elements provided in the housing and positioned to scan the reflection type and transparent original documents as the supporting tray is moved into or out of the housing. The scanning elements include lamps positioned above and below the supporting tray for uniformly illuminating respective transparent and reflection-type documents positioned on the tray as the tray is moved relative to the lamp.

Scanning device

A moving mechanism for a camera lens assembly includes a smooth concave face formed in a surface of the camera main body, a slot formed in the concave face, a first cable extending from the shutter assembly and having at least two wires, a rotatable tube surrounding the cable and having an axial groove, a first plate rotatable with the tube and having at least two electrically conductive rings which are respectively connected to the at least two wires of the first cable, and a second plate fixed against rotation relative to the camera main body and having at least two conductive rings connected to two wires of a second cable extending from the camera main body. The slot in the camera main body is in the shape of a cross and the first plate includes a projection that enables the first plate to move in the two directions permitted by the slot while preventing rotation of the first plate relative to the main body so that, in the case of movement in the left-right or forward-backward directions, the projection does not impede movement of the first plate and the tube, first plate, and second plate all move together in the selected direction, while in the case of rotation about the vertical axis, the first plate is prevented from rotation and only the tube and second plate are rotated together, with the shutter assembly and the first plate rotating relative to the second plate.
