Instruments and techniques for orienting prosthesis components for joint prostheses

Systems, kits and methods for long bone arthroplasty that include arrays of humeral head prosthesis components, each having on a first side a bone articulation surface that has an overall generally hemi elliptical convex shape defined by a major axis and a minor axis, the bone articulation surface having an apex and a base that each has an non-circular elliptical cross sectional shape, the prosthesis components having on an opposite side, adjacent the base, a bone contact surface. The humeral head prosthesis components in the arrays vary from having a base with a more circular cross sectional shape to a more elongated elliptical cross sectional shape with increasing size.

Arthroplasty components

A system for long bone arthroplasty includes humeral head prosthesis components, and an array of humeral head prosthesis components, each humeral head prosthesis component in the array having a convex articulation surface that is hemi-elliptical and defined by a major axis, a minor axis, an apex, and a base having an elliptical cross sectional shape defined by a major diameter along the major axis and a minor diameter along the minor axis, wherein the array of elliptical humeral head prosthesis components provides for suitable and sufficient anatomical fit within a variation of up to and not more than 3 mm in at least 96% of a patient population, and up to 99% of a patient population.

Arthroplasty implants and methods for orienting joint prosthesis

A system for long bone arthroplasty includes humeral head prosthesis components, and an array of humeral head prosthesis components, each humeral head prosthesis component in the array having a convex articulation surface that is hemi-elliptical and defined by a major axis, a minor axis, an apex, and a base having an elliptical cross sectional shape defined by a major diameter along the major axis and a minor diameter along the minor axis. Each humeral head prosthesis component in the array is characterized by a ratio relationship of the minor diameter divided by the major diameter of the base, each having a major diameter and a minor diameter that is different from each of the other prosthesis components in the array, wherein as the major diameter is increased the ratio of the minor diameter to the major diameter is decreased. The humeral head prosthesis components in the array vary from having a base with a more circular cross sectional shape to a more elongated elliptical cross sectional shape with increasing size.

The present invention is directed to a modular assembly for an arthroplasty in a long bone and methods for achieving an anatomically accurate reconstruction. A modular arthroplasty assembly includes the components of: a convertible offset coupler bounded on a first side by an implant surface adapted to receive an implant component, and bounded on an opposite second side by a bone anchor engagement surface, prosthesis component and a bone anchor configured to be inserted in bone and adapted for engagement with the convertible offset coupler. Together, the components of the system, including the array of selectable engagement orientations of the components, enables adaptation to the existing anatomy of the patient and the ability to most closely achieve the native anatomy of the healthy shoulder joint so as to provide the patient with the most natural use of the joint. The system also provides a solution for reverse arthroplasty and conversion from anatomically correct to reverse that avoids a boney procedure on revision and minimizes humeral distalization.

Prosthetic device

Devices and systems for repairing bone fractures and more specifically a fracture repair plate that provides for fixation of a metaphysis to the diaphysis of a long bone, for instance a fracture between the proximal humerus and the diaphysis of the humerus. The fracture repair system includes an implantable repair fracture repair plate and a bone anchor for fixing the fracture repair plate to a bone. In one embodiment, the fracture repair plate may also be adapted to serve as an anchor for a suture. The fracture repair system may also include a fracture reduction mechanism attachable to the fracture repair plate for imparting a controlled translational movement between two bone segments along a plane that lies substantially parallel to the surface of the bone to which the fracture repair plate is attached and substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bone shaft.

Proximal humerus fracture repair plate and system

The present invention is directed to a prosthesis for an arthroplasty in a long bone and a methods for achieving a press fit of the metaphyseal element of the prosthesis into a metaphysis of the long bone and the extraction of the prosthesis when indicated. The prosthesis includes a metaphyseal element attached at a proximal end of a stem, the metaphyseal element of the prosthesis is configured to optimize placement of bone marrow about, and in some embodiments, within the metaphyseal element to achieve a press-fit in the metaphysis of the long bone. The prosthesis also includes one or more apertures formed in the joint base member of the prosthesis. Preferably each slot includes a frangible wall which is readily penetrated to accommodate passage of an osteotome of other tool to break the metaphyseal element free from bony in-growth that occurs against the metaphyseal element.
