Methods and systems for removing interference from strongly powered SSS sequences in a received signal so that comparatively weakly powered SSS sequences in the received signal can be detected are disclosed. The methods and systems can perform a first cell search using the received signal to detect a strongly powered SSS sequence. Using a known SSS sequence corresponding to the strongly powered SSS sequence, the channel over which the strongly powered SSS sequence is received can be estimated. The estimated channel can then be used to determine the contribution of the strongly powered SSS and PSS sequence to the received signal so that it can be canceled. With the contribution of the strongly powered SSS and PSS sequence canceled from the received signal, a second cell search can be performed using the received signal to detect a weakly powered SSS sequence.

Secondary synchronization signal detection with interference cancelation for LTE

A user equipment (UE) performs a transform domain (DFT) based method to detect the cyclic prefix (CP) length that is being used by a base station for cellular communications. The detected CP length is then used to reduce the amount of time required to complete the synchronization and cell search procedures. In particular, the UE uses the detected CP length information to obtain Cell Identification parameters (NID1, NID2) along with information including a Maximum energy Tap location and a reference signal receive power (RSRP) while completing the synchronization and cell search procedures.

Receiver with cyclic prefix determination

A wireless communication device is disclosed that is capable of performing efficient handoffs in order to maximize connection time with either a serving or target base station. The wireless communication device performs measurements of only intra-frequency base stations to avoid retuning its radio module. Based on this information, as well as stored information relating to nearby base stations, the serving base station is able to estimate a position of the wireless communication device and compare the estimated position to positions of the known base stations in order to make a handoff decision. In addition, by storing information during measurement or handoff preparation, the device is capable of skipping handoff steps, immediately return to the serving base station after handoff failure, and/or perform streamlined PLMN searching.

Wireless communication device capable of efficient handoffs

A wireless communication device is disclosed that is capable of performing efficient network searching. Specifically, by utilizing its location information and accessing stored cell information, the device can streamline searching. Further, if a full search is to be performed, the device receives information from multiple radio access technologies together, and processes the received information digitally in order to search the individual radio access technologies. In addition, the device is capable of performing efficient 4G searches by setting its RF module to capture information of multiple raster points simultaneously within a search band, and shifting the search band so as not to duplicatively search raster points.

Wireless communication device capable of efficient network search

A wireless communication device is disclosed that is capable of performing efficient measurements of secondary radio access technologies (RATs). The device includes multiple receiver chains. While operating in a first RAT, the device receives a measurement gap in order to perform measurements. Even though the measurement gap may be too small to adequately measure the other RAT, the device controls one of the receiver chains to measure the other RAT during a time period that overlaps with the measurement gap. In addition, when preparing for an inter-RAT handoff, the device controls one of the receiver chains to perform measurements regardless of whether a measurement gap has been received. In this manner, measurements of alternative RATs are efficiently performed, and handoff latency is significantly reduced.

A system and method for receiving a plurality of pilot tones, generating an analytic signal in a frequency domain, the analytic signal including frequency components that when converted to a time domain include a preamble having a first half containing only non-zero data and a second half containing only zero data, converting the analytic signal from the frequency domain to the time domain, resulting in the preamble having the first half containing only non-zero data and the second half containing only zero data, generating a cyclic prefix based on the second half of the preamble, and attaching the cyclic prefix to the preamble to form a pilot signal, the cyclic prefix including only zero data.
