An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device includes a backlight unit including a plurality of backlights; a driving unit for driving the backlight unit; and a processor for identifying, based on luminance information about each of the plurality of backlights, a number of time intervals in which each of the plurality of backlights is to be turned on from among a plurality of time intervals included in a backlight dimming interval, and controlling the driving unit so that the plurality of backlights are turned on during the identified number of time intervals by variously changing times at which the plurality of backlights are turned on.

A display device includes a communication interface including a circuit, a display panel including a plurality of pixels, the plurality of pixels comprising red (R), green (G), and blue (B) subpixels, a memory configured to store first luminance information and second luminance information, and a processor configured to acquire an output frame based on a plurality of subpixel values of pixels included in an input frame received via the communication interface, the first luminance information, and the second luminance information; and based on the acquired luminance values, control the display panel to output the output frame.

A display device includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels; a gate driver for applying a gate-on signal through a plurality of gate lines of the display panel; a data driver for applying a data signal through a plurality of data lines of the display panel; and a timing controller for controlling the gate driver and the data driver to display an image frame at a first frame frequency. The display panel is driven at a second frame frequency that is higher than the first frame frequency. The timing controller controls the gate-on signal to be applied to the plurality of gate lines for a time determined on the basis of the second frame frequency, and controls the data driver to apply an over driven data signal to the plurality of data lines.
