Systems and methods are provided where requests to modify or validate a road network map are received, and a determination is made as to whether a requested modification, or the road network map, is invalid based on a location at which the modification is desired to be made, and rules associated with a corresponding bounded area of the road network map to which the location belongs. Where a requested modification, or the road network map, is determined to be invalid, the modification is inhibited, or a notification is displayed to a user that the road network map violates the set of rules.

The present disclosure is related to generating map data explicitly indicating a total drivable surface, which may include multiple types of drivable surfaces. For instance, a given portion of a map may include map data indicating a combination of various drivable surfaces, such as road segments, lane properties, intersections, parking areas, shoulders, driveways, etc. Examples of the present disclosure join these different types of drivable surfaces into combined map data that explicitly indicates a total drivable surface, such as a perimeter boundary indicating or representing a transition from a drivable surface to a non-drivable surface. The map data indicating the total drivable surface may be searched to determine information related to a drivable surface boundary, such as location and type. This boundary information may be used in various contexts, such as when planning a trajectory or remotely controlling a vehicle.

A technique for rendering database data in visualized form using a distributed computer system including a plurality of networked worker nodes each including a graphics processing unit (GPU) is disclosed. The technique includes receiving, at a head node, a user request to render data, forwarding the request to the worker nodes, processing, in parallel, by the worker nodes, chunks of respective shards of data to be rendered. The technique also includes merging, in parallel, by each of the worker nodes, initial images formed by the processing within respective shards, to form a plurality of integrated images, merging, in parallel, respective integrated images to form worker node images, and transmitting respective worker node images to the sink node. The technique also includes merging the worker node images to form a final image, converting the final image to an output image, and providing the output image to the user.
