The present disclosure is generally related to 3D imaging capable OLED displays. A light field display comprises an array of 3D light field pixels, each of which comprises an array of corrugated OLED pixels, a metasurface layer disposed adjacent to the array of 3D light field pixels, and a plurality of median layers disposed between the metasurface layer and the corrugated OLED pixels. Each of the corrugated OLED pixels comprises primary or non-primary color subpixels, and produces a different view of an image through the median layers to the metasurface to form a 3D image. The corrugated OLED pixels combined with a cavity effect reduce a divergence of emitted light to enable effective beam direction manipulation by the metasurface. The metasurface having a higher refractive index and a smaller filling factor enables the deflection and direction of the emitted light from the corrugated OLED pixels to be well controlled.

An apparatus for determining a characteristic of a photoluminescent (PL) layer comprises: a light source that generates an excitation light that includes light from the visible or near-visible spectrum; an optical assembly configured to direct the excitation light onto a PL layer; a detector that is configured to receive a PL emission generated by the PL layer in response to the excitation light interacting with the PL layer and generate a signal based on the PL emission; and a computing device coupled to the detector and configured to receive the signal from the detector and determine a characteristic of the PL layer based on the signal.

Metrology for OLED manufacturing using photoluminescence spectroscopy

A depositing arrangement for evaporation of a material is disclosed herein. The depositing arrangement has an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal for deposition of the material on a substrate. The deposition arrangement has a first chamber configured for liquefying the material; a valve being in fluid communication with the first chamber, and being downstream of the first chamber, wherein the valve is configured for control of the flow rate of the liquefied material through the valve. The deposition arrangement has an evaporation zone being in fluid communication with the valve, and being downstream of the valve, wherein the evaporation zone is configured for vaporizing the liquefied material; a heating unit to heat the material to higher temperatures before providing the liquid material in the evaporation zone; and one or more outlets for directing the vaporized material towards the substrate.

Evaporator, deposition arrangement, deposition apparatus and methods of operation thereof

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an apparatus and methods for forming arrays of EL devices and forming the EL devices with overlapped mask plates. The methods utilize overlapping a first mask plate and a second mask plate to form a mask arrangement having first apertures of the first mask plate overlapped with second apertures of the second mask plate forming one or more opening areas. A material is evaporated through the mask arrangement such that layers of the material are formed in a device area of the EL devices. The device area of each of the EL devices corresponds to the opening area of the mask arrangement of the first mask plate and the second mask plate. The method described herein allows for a higher density of the EL devices and creates a smaller deposition area due to the opening area of the mask arrangement.

Method of making high resolution OLED fabricated with overlapped masks

Approaches herein provide a device, such as a battery protection device, including a cathode current collector and an anode current collector provided atop a substrate, a cathode provided atop the cathode current collector, and an electrolyte layer provided over the cathode. An interlayer, such as one or more layers of silicon, antimony, magnesium, titanium, magnesium lithium, and/or silver lithium, is formed over the electrolyte layer. An anode contact layer, such as an anode or anode current collector, is then provided over the interlayer. By providing the interlayer atop the electrolyte layer prior to anode contact layer deposition, lithium from the cathode side alloys with the interlayer, thus providing a more isotropic or uniaxial detachment of the anode contact layer.

A magnetic handling assembly for thin-film processing of a substrate, a system and method for assembling and disassembling a shadow mask to cover a top of a workpiece for exposure to a processing condition. The assembly may include a magnetic handling carrier and a shadow mask disposed over, and magnetically coupled to, the magnetic handling carrier to cover a top of a workpiece that is to be disposed between the shadow mask and the magnetic handling carrier when exposed to a processing condition. A system includes a first chamber with a first support to hold the shadow mask, a second support to hold a handling carrier, and an alignment system to align the shadow mask a workpiece to be disposed between the carrier and shadow mask. The first and second supports are moveable relative to each other.

The present disclosure generally provides a method for forming a photovoltaic device including evaporating a source material to form a large molecule processing gas and flowing the large molecule processing gas through a gas distribution showerhead and into a processing area of a processing chamber having a substrate therein. The method includes generating a small molecule processing gas, and reacting the small molecule processing gas with a film already deposited on a substrate surface to form a semiconductor film. Additionally, apparatuses that may use the methods are also provided to enable continuous inline CIGS type solar cell formation.

Microwave radiation may be applied to electrochemical devices for rapid thermal processing (RTP) (including annealing, crystallizing, densifying, forming, etc.) of individual layers of the electrochemical devices, as well as device stacks, including bulk and thin film batteries and thin film electrochromic devices. A method of manufacturing an electrochemical device may comprise: depositing a layer of the electrochemical device over a substrate; and microwave annealing the layer, wherein the microwave annealing includes selecting annealing conditions with preferential microwave energy absorption in the layer. An apparatus for forming an electrochemical device may comprise: a first system to deposit an electrochemical device layer over a substrate; and a second system to microwave anneal the layer, wherein the second system is configured to provide preferential microwave energy absorption in the device layer.

Microwave rapid thermal processing of electrochemical devices

The present invention relates to sputter targets for electrochemical device layer deposition comprising a lithium-containing target material with near-metallic electrical conductivity which includes (a) at least one metal and (b) a lithium-containing material, the lithium-containing material being selected from the group consisting of lithium metal and a lithium-containing salt, wherein the at least one metal and the lithium-containing material are formed into the lithium-containing target material and wherein the lithium-containing target material is configured with a composition sufficient for physical vapor deposition of a lithium-containing electrode of the electrochemical device in a single step, the lithium-containing electrode as deposited requiring no further lithium doping. Furthermore, the composition of the metallic lithium-containing target material may be configured to provide a low enough electrical resistance to permit DC sputtering. Chambers and tools including the sputter target and process flows for fabricating electrochemical devices including steps utilizing the sputter target are also described.

Lithium containing composite metallic sputtering targets

A method of fabricating a thin film battery may comprise: depositing a first stack of blanket layers on a substrate, the first stack comprising a cathode current collector, a cathode, an electrolyte, an anode and an anode current collector; laser die patterning the first stack to form one or more second stacks, each second stack forming the core of a separate thin film battery; blanket depositing an encapsulation layer over the one or more second stacks; laser patterning the encapsulation layer to open up contact areas to the anode current collectors on each of the one or more second stacks; blanket depositing a metal pad layer over the encapsulation layer and the contact areas; and laser patterning the metal pad layer to electrically isolate the anode current collectors of each of the one or more thin film batteries. For electrically non-conductive substrates, cathode contact areas are opened-up through the substrate.

Mask-less fabrication of vertical thin film batteries

A method of depositing a dielectric thin film may include: depositing a thin layer of dielectric; stopping deposition of the dielectric layer, and modifying the gas in the chamber if desired; inducing and maintaining a plasma in the vicinity of the substrate to provide ion bombardment of the deposited layer of dielectric; and repeating the depositing, stopping and inducing and maintaining steps until a desired thickness of dielectric is deposited. A variation on this method may include, in place of the repeating step: depositing a thick layer of lower quality dielectric; depositing a thin layer of high quality dielectric; stopping deposition of the dielectric layer, and modifying the gas in the chamber if desired; and inducing and maintaining a plasma in the vicinity of the substrate to provide ion bombardment of the deposited layer of dielectric. The thick layer of dielectric may be deposited more rapidly than the thin layers.

A system for use in substrate polishing includes a conditioner system for conditioning a surface of a polishing pad and a vacuum system having a vacuum port. The conditioner system includes a conditioner head constructed to receive an abrasive conditioner component. The vacuum system is configured to apply suction through the vacuum port to the surface of the polishing pad in a direction away from the surface to remove material on the surface.
