A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) enabling optimization of a process to apply phosphor paste in order to achieve mass production using a jet nozzle method includes dummy areas structured to determine whether application conditions such as an ejecting pressure or the like are stable by measuring a depth of the applied layer after applying phosphor paste at a portion thereof in advance. The PDP includes: a first substrate and a second substrate opposing each other; address electrodes arranged on the first substrate; display electrodes arranged on the second substrate along a direction perpendicular to the address electrodes; barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first substrate and the second substrate to define a plurality of discharge cells, and phosphor layers arranged in each of the discharge cells.

A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) in which a dummy area is arranged so as to retain phosphor paste ejected from extra nozzles when a plurality of nozzles are used to apply phosphor paste. The PDP includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposing each other; address electrodes arranged on the first substrate; display electrodes arranged on the second substrate perpendicular to a direction of the address electrodes; barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first substrate and the second substrate to define a plurality of discharge cells; and phosphor layers arranged in each of the discharge cells; wherein a display area comprises a plurality of the discharge cells arranged at positions where the address electrodes and the display electrodes cross each other; wherein a non-display area is arranged adjacent to an edge of the display area along a direction perpendicular to a direction in which phosphor layers of the same color are applied to discharge cells neighboring each other; and wherein the phosphor layers are arranged in portions of the non-display area.

A plasma display panel having barrier ribs designed to prevent phosphor material from forming on a top surface thereof. The barrier ribs include a plurality of parallel first barrier rib members and a plurality of parallel second barrier rib members formed substantially perpendicularly intersecting the first barrier rib members. The first barrier rib members have a cross-sectional apex width and the second barrier rib members have a cross-sectional apex. The apex width of the first barrier rib members is less than the apex width of the second barrier rib members, so that when the phosphor material is deposited thereon, the phosphor accumulates on the sidewalls of the barrier ribs and between the barrier ribs, and not on top of the barrier ribs, thus improving image quality.

Plasma display panel (PDP) having phosphor layers in non-display areas

A plasma display panel with an improved barrier rib design. The barrier ribs between the substrates are designed to have differing heights to compensate for the difference in the amount of phosphor layer material formed on the tops of the barrier ribs. By designing the barrier ribs so, gaps between the tops of the barrier ribs and the front substrate are reduced or eliminated thus improving image quality. At the same time, the deposition of the phosphor layers is made easier by jet nozzle ejection so that the novel plasma display panel is easy to make. Fluorescent phosphor layers are applied in neighboring discharge cells with the first barrier members interposed there between. A total height of the first barrier members and the phosphor layers applied thereon is substantially the same as the height of the second barrier ribs members. This may protect the plasma display panel from cross-talk phenomenon.
