Disclosed herein is an O/W type emulsion comprising oils and milk characterized in that which comprises as an emulsifier polyethoxylated vitamin E in amount of 0.01 to 10% by weight. This emulsion may further contain vitamin E or its derivative. The emulsion according to the invention may stored for a long period of time without phase separation because polyethoxylated vitamin E contained therein forms microspheres in the interface of each emulsion particles. Further, it shows an improved activity of protecting the skin from the harmful oxygen species.

The present invention relates to cosmetic compositions containing at least one polyethoxylated vitamin E species, which may be prepared by reacting a vitamin E with ethylene oxide, and exhibit an excellent cell protecting activity in the living body. The cosmetic compositions in the form of a skin-care, hair-care, lip-care and make-up cosmetic composition, which contain at least one polyethoxylated vitamin E species in an amount of 0.01 to 50% by weight, provide a protection against harmful oxygen species, show a moisture retention ability, and increase the tensile strength of hair, and substantivity and durability of the cosmetic compositions, when applied to the skin or hair.

The present invention provides quaternary ammonium-substituted saponin ethers having improved electrostatic and hydrophobic interactive activities, and therefore very useful in hair-care and skin-care products. The product of the invention, particularly, eliminates efficiently the static flyaway of hair and gives excellent conditioning effect to hair when used in hair-care products. The quaternary ammonium-substituted saponin ethers can be prepared by reacting a soya or ginseng saponin or an aglycone thereof with a cationic compound selected from quaternary ammonium halohydrin or quaternary ammonium epoxide.

The present invention relates to a novel quaternary ammonium-substituted sterol derivative of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein Q represents an anion of a strong inorganic acid, A represents an oxygen, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, t, n, and the sterol Rst are defined as herein. The compounds of the present invention as a result of introducing a cationic group into hydroxy group of sterols of ethoxylated compounds thereof which are non-ionic, shows the enhanced substantivity against substrate having, on its surface, an anionic characters under normal conditions such as skin and hair of human being. The compound of the present invention can be used in the field of cosmetics.

Quaternary ammonium-substituted sterol derivatives

The present invention relates to a novel cationic polymer processing U.V. absorbing ability which is produced by the ester bonding of a cationic U.V. absorber to the terminal of the polymer. Unlike conventional nonionic U.V. absorbing polymers or nonionic or anionic U.V. absorbers, the U.V. absorber according to the present invention exhibits an improved substantivity to several anionic substrates, for example, hair, skin, and the like, due to the presence of a positively charged substituent group.
