A dual-mode controller may include a communication interface between a handheld electronic device and subsystems on a computing bus or network. The dual-mode controller may operate in a 'master mode' when a user directly manipulates the dual-mode controller to communicate with any subsystem(s). In this mode, the dual-mode controller may serve as a master controller and accesses and controls various subsystems on the bus or network (such as engine control subsystems, location positioning systems, navigation systems, sensors and transducers) as a master controller. In a slave mode, the interface may act as an adapter or interface between the handheld device and the subsystems.

Dual-mode controller

A dual-mode controller may include a communication interface between a handheld electronic device and subsystems on a computing bus or network. The dual-mode controller may operate in a 'master mode' when a user directly manipulates the dual-mode controller to communicate with any subsystem(s). In this mode, the dual-mode controller may serve as a master controller and accesses and controls various subsystems on the bus or network (such as audio/visual subsystems, temperature control subsystems, alarm subsystems, sensors and transducers) as a master controller. In a slave mode, the interface may act as an adapter or interface between the handheld device and the subsystems.

Graphene-based filter for isolating a substance from blood

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a balance exercise training equipment having a planar platform with a ballast assembly that lowers its center of mass below a ball-and-socket joint. In an illustrative example, the planar platform may couple to a support assembly through the ball and socket joint to pivot and rotate relative to the support assembly. The ballast assembly may include laterally extending members to releasably receive and retain ballast plates. In response to the laterally extending members receiving and retaining ballast plates, the center of mass may descend below a pivot point of the ball-and-socket joint. In a mount or dismount mode, a locking mechanism may lock the planar platform in a predetermined position to facilitate mounting and dismounting onto the planar platform. Advantageously, a user may adjust the center of mass in accordance with a user's skill level or exercise preference.

Exercise balance trainer

A vehicular interface may include an electromechanical interface between a handheld electronic device and subsystems on a vehicular bus or network. In an illustrative embodiment, the interface may operate in a 'master mode' when a handheld device, such as a tablet computer or smart-phone, is not inserted therein. In this mode the interface may serve as a master controller and accesses and controls various subsystems on a vehicle (such as engine control subsystems, media controllers, navigation systems, sensors and transducers) as a master controller. In one embodiment, when a tablet device is inserted into the interface, the interface may automatically switch to 'slave mode' in which it acts as an adapter or interface between the tablet device and the vehicular subsystems.

Dual-mode vehicular controller

A dual-mode exercise apparatus may include an articulating arm assembly coupled through a joint to a support assembly. In an illustrative embodiment, the arm assembly may include a seat centrally mounted above a ball-and-socket joint and a stabilizer member for the hands and/or feet of the user. In a first mode of operation a user sits on the seat and uses his or her core muscles to articulate the seat on the ball-and-socket joint against the resistance provided by, for instance, weights mounted on distal portions of the arm assembly. In certain embodiments the apparatus may further provide a second mode of operation which simulates rowing a kayak. In a corresponding illustrative embodiment a user sits in a second seat positioned rearward of the arm assembly and the arm assembly includes handle members. In operation the user articulates the handles in a manner akin to rowing a kayak.

Core exercise apparatus and methods

A system and method for an acoustic sensor array of a bundle of N different length optical fiber sensors. A coherent or noncoherent light source is input to each fiber for transmission along the length of the fiber. The light signal is reflected back at the fiber end point, and the resulting reflected light is diverted to an optical receiver so that perturbations of intensity and/or phase may be extracted.

A direct radio frequency complex analog to digital converter (CADC) device provides corrective factors including a plurality of time-interleaved low speed ADCs, wherein each ADC corresponds to an ADC channel. A phase corrective factor is calculated for each ADC channel. An amplitude corrective factor is calculated for each ADC channel. The phase and amplitude corrective factors are applied to complex bandpass filter coefficients to produce filter coefficients corrected for the phase and amplitude imbalances between ADCs. Digital output of each ADC channel is filtered by a complex bandpass filter using the corrected filter coefficients to produce corrected in-phase and quadrature output at baseband. Harmonics produced by the ADCs are canceled by filtering ADC outputs in a first bandpass filter to an intermediate frequency such that the harmonics fall outside the band of interest, a second filter is applied to attenuate the harmonic and produce a signal output at baseband.

In one embodiment, when a tablet device is inserted into the interface, the interface may automatically switch to 'slave mode' in which it acts as an adapter or interface between the tablet device and the vehicular subsystems. In this mode of operation the user's exclusive interface is through the tablet computer and the tablet computer serves as the master controller for the system.

Vehicular dual mode master/slave interface

In certain embodiments, the system of the invention automatically replicates a user's personal computing environment and provides associated remote server access using authentication credentials and data files supplied by a local handheld device as coordinated by session level software common to the handheld device, the replicated system, the system on which the replication occurs, and the remote servers. The application enables a handheld computing device to transfer a user's various online account credentials to a user's other computing devices securely and automatically. Thereafter the other computing device accesses a user's cloud-based storage and various on-line accounts and also pulls selected documents, bookmarks and related information directly from a user's handheld. The other computing device thereby essentially becomes a clone of a user's primary personal computer, complete with bookmarks, email account access, documents in a user's desktop and My Documents folder, pictures, music, and on-line content subscription access.
