A velocity correction apparatus for a disc record player includes a permanent magnet attached to a cartridge mounted pickup arm and an electromagnetic coil secured in a cartridge supporting carriage. The coil is fixed to a supporting member which conformally engages structural features of the cartridge to guarantee proper alignment of coil and magnet. The coil support is mounted to permit limited rotation thereof to facilitate installation of the cartridge in the carriage and is mechanically biased to maintain coil-cartridge engagement and to maintain the cartridge in its normally operative position in the carriage.

Velocity correction apparatus for disc record player

A stylus arm assembly is formed by heating the stylus to about 250.degree. F., and then inserting it into a section of heat shrink tubing. The subsequent heating of the joint causes the portions of the heat shrink tubing surrounding the stylus to shrink to fixedly hold the stylus in place.

Stylus arm for video disc player

A retainer for holding the stylus arm of a video disc signal pickup cartridge is described which is low cost and occupies little space in the cartridge. The retainer is formed from flat spring stock and shaped to have a three-sided body with fingers extending from the parallel sides to encompass and hold the stylus arm. The retainer is inserted through a top wall of the cartridge and spring tabs which are formed in the sides of the retainer body engage opposite surfaces of the top wall to secure the retainer thereto.

Pickup arm retainer for video disc cartridge

A video disc signal pickup cartridge is described wherein the stylus arm is coupled to the cartridge body by a highly compliant relatively long, flat member suspended vertically from the top wall of the cartridge. The stylus arm is coupled to the member by passing one end of the arm through a tight fitting hole in the distal end of the member. The member is necked down near the hole to increase torsional compliance with respect to axial rotation of the stylus arm. The proximate end of the member has an expanded compliant region which is compressed for passage through a mounting hole in the cartridge body and allowed to re-expand to compressively retain the member in the hole.

Pickup arm suspension for video disc cartridge

An apparatus for aiding in the final orientation of a video disc stylus assembly within the stylus cartridge. A fixture is arranged for receiving and securing cartridge assemblies in precise spatial relation to successive assemblies. A cantilever secured in fixed spatial relation to the cartridge has its free distal end arranged to engage the stylus assembly, which engagement produces deflections in the cantilever relative to the position of the stylus assembly with respect to the cartridge. Electro-mechanical transducers, coupled to the cantilever, measure and indicate minute deflections therein. The stylus position is then altered manually or by controlled mechanical means in accordance with the measured deflection in the cantilevers.

Cartridge force and bias adjustment gage

A protective cover is provided for a video disc record playback cartridge. The cartridge includes a flylead which normally has a bow shape which is directly related to the forces applied to the playback stylus. The protective cover has a housing which slides onto the cartridge body and also has an element inside of the housing which prevents the bow shape of the flyhead from being disturbed during shipping and handling of the cartridge to avoid adverse changes to the preset forces applied to the stylus.

Removable protective cover for a video disc stylus cartridge

A flylead for providing electrical connection to a video disc signal pickup stylus, and exhibiting a prescribed force directed toward the record disc as well as a prescribed compliance to lateral translation. A substantially flat metal flylead element is configured with a respective narrowed region proximate each of its ends to permit the section between the narrowed sections to twist independent of the ends when mounted. The flylead, in its normal play configuration, is elastically deformed in an arc with the narrowed regions outside the region of the arc. A lateral translation of one end of the flylead induces a twisting in the arced portion of the flylead, which twisting relieves the flyleads resistance to such translation.

Flylead for a video disc stylus cartridge

A cartridge for a video disc stylus having a stylus-position sensor, including an electrode mounted to the cartridge walls. An appendage is provided on the cartridge wall to position the sensor electrode proximate the stylus, the appendage being contoured to accept a preformed sensor electrode. The sensor electrode is formed from sufficiently resilient material to recover from deformation during electrode-appendage engagement and constrain itself to a particular position in the cartridge by compressive forces developed between the electrode and the appendage.
