A downhole drilling motor comprising a housing and a shaft extending within the housing, wherein the shaft is movable relative to the housing. Further, a conducting path extends within the housing between a first axial position and a second axial position. The conducting path comprises a housing conductor associated with the housing and a shaft conductor associated with the shaft, wherein the shaft conductor is capable of a movement relative to the housing conductor. An assimilating connector is interposed between the housing conductor and the shaft conductor for conductively connecting the housing conductor with the shaft conductor and for assimilating the movement of the shaft conductor relative to the housing conductor. The assimilating connector includes one or more of a rotary movement assimilating connector, a longitudinal movement assimilating connector and a transverse movement assimilating connector.

Downhole motor with a continuous conductive path

An orientation sensing apparatus includes a rotatable first member, an orientation sensor device fixed with the first member for generating orientation data relating to an orientation sensor device orientation, and a rotation sensor device for generating rotation data relating to rotation of the first member. A method for determining an orientation includes assembling a set of sensor data including the orientation data and rotation data and processing the set of sensor data to generate a set of corrected orientation data. The set of corrected orientation data includes the orientation data which has been corrected using the rotation data to reduce the effects of rotation of the first member and misalignment of the gravity sensor device. One or more sets of corrected orientation data may be processed to determine an inclination orientation of the first member or a toolface orientation of a second member which is connected with the first member.

Orientation sensing apparatus and a method for determining an orientation

A slip ring assembly including a slip ring and an electrical contact assembly. The slip ring defines a circumference and an electrical contact groove extending around the circumference of the slip ring. The electrical contact assembly preferably includes a plurality of electrical contacts spaced around the circumference of the slip ring for engaging the electrical contact groove. In addition, an urging mechanism is preferably associated with each of the electrical contacts for urging the electrical contacts toward engagement with the electrical contact groove. Finally, a wiper is preferably associated with each of the electrical contacts for extending within the electrical contact groove to inhibit a fluid from passing through the electrical contact groove.

Energized slip ring assembly

An electromagnetic antenna extension assembly for connection downhole into a pipe string between a data transmission unit and an electromagnetic antenna. Further, a method for connecting the data transmission unit with the antenna utilizing the assembly. The antenna includes an outer antenna member and an inner antenna member having a lower electrical connector. The data transmission unit includes an outer transmission member and an inner data transmission tool having an upper electrical connector connectable with the lower connector of the inner antenna member. The assembly includes at least one extension tool comprised of: a conductive outer extension member having an upper end connectable with the outer antenna member and a lower end connectable with the outer transmission member; and a conductive inner extension member within the outer extension member and having an upper end connectable with the lower connector of the inner antenna member and a lower end connectable with the upper connector of the inner data transmission tool, such that the electromagnetic signal is communicable between the data transmission unit and the antenna.
