A dust injection system for engine testing and related methods are provided. The system includes a carrier pipe that defines a fluid flow path between an inlet and an outlet and an injection nozzle disposed within the carrier pipe between the inlet and the outlet. The injection nozzle receives a slurry comprising dust particulates and a carrier liquid, and injects the dust particulates and the carrier liquid into the fluid flow path. The carrier liquid is atomized and evaporates in the fluid flow path prior to the outlet to enable dried version of the dust particulates to exit the outlet.

Slurry-based dust injection system

A reactive phase spray formulation coating is configured to be disposed on the thermal barrier coating of an article. The reactive phase spray formulation coating comprises a base material and a binder material. The base material has a compliance that is higher than a compliance of the binder material, the binder material has a cohesive strength that is greater than a cohesive strength of the base material, the binder material has an adhesive strength that is greater than an adhesive strength of the base material, and the binder material has a surface area of at least ten square-meters per gram that is greater than a surface area of the base material. The binder material is configured to improve a cohesive strength level, an adhesive strength level, and a compliance of the formulation coating of the thermal barrier coating relative to the formulation coating not including the binder material.

Reactive phase spray formulation coatings

A turbine engine that includes a compressor section configured to receive particle-laden fluid and to at least partially compress the particle-laden fluid, and a primary fluid passageway fluidly coupled with the compressor section and including opposing first and second walls where the primary fluid passageway receives the particle-laden fluid that is compressed by the compressor section. One or more bleed holes in the first wall or the second wall fluidly couple the primary fluid passageway with an auxiliary flow passageway. At least one separator body is disposed in and extends along the primary fluid passageway. A support device couples to a portion of the at least one separator body.

Particle separators for turbomachines and method of operating the same

A spray nozzle includes a first conduit that provides a first flow path for a first type of fluid, a second conduit that provides a second flow path for a second fluid that is different from the first fluid, a first dispensing aperture that ejects therefrom a spray that includes the first type of fluid and/or the second type of fluid, and at least one balancing outlet in fluid communication with the second conduit. The at least one balancing outlet permit the second type of fluid to exit therefrom to balance a force of ejection of the spray from the first dispensing aperture.

A coating system configured to be applied to a thermal barrier coating of an article includes an infiltration coating configured to be applied to the thermal barrier coating. The infiltration coating infiltrates at least some pores of the thermal barrier coating. The infiltration coating decomposes within at least some pores of the thermal barrier coating to coat a portion of the at least some pores of the thermal barrier coating. The infiltration coating reduces a porosity of the thermal barrier coating. The coating system also includes a reactive phase spray formulation coat configured to be applied to the thermal barrier coating. The reactive phase spray formulation coating reacts with dust deposits on the thermal barrier coating.

A servicing tool for a turbine engine and a method for using thereof are provided. A method includes inserting the tool into an access opening of the turbine engine, contacting a blade of the turbine engine, and removing material from the blade. The tool may comprise a wiper mount and a wiper, including a wiper surface, configured to contact and remove material from the blades. The tool may further comprise a body, an actuator, and fluid flowpaths for deploying the wiper and providing fluid locally to the blades of the turbine engine.

Turbine engine servicing tool and method for using thereof

A coating system configured to be applied to a thermal barrier coating of an article includes an infiltration coating configured to be applied to the thermal barrier coating. The infiltration coating infiltrates at least some pores of the thermal barrier coating. The infiltration coating decomposes within the at least some pores of the thermal barrier coating to coat a portion of the at least some pores of the thermal barrier coating. The infiltration coating reduces a porosity of the thermal barrier coating. The coating system also includes a reactive phase spray formulation coat configured to be applied to the thermal barrier coating. The reactive phase spray formulation coating reacts with dust deposits on the thermal barrier coating.

A particle separator includes a separator body in a primary fluid passageway of a machine. The primary fluid passageway includes one or more bleed holes through which a diverted portion of the fluid flowing in the primary fluid passageway toward a volume of the machine is diverted into an auxiliary flow passageway that bypasses the volume and directs the diverted portion of the fluid toward one or more other components of the machine. The separator body is coupled with the inner wall and/or outer wall of the primary fluid passageway. The separator body includes an upstream edge positioned to separate at least some particles carried by the fluid from the fluid as the diverted portion of the fluid bends around and flows over the at least one upstream edge of the separator body and into the auxiliary flow passageway.

An atomizing spray nozzle device includes an atomizing zone housing that receives different phases of materials used to form a coating. The atomizing zone housing mixes the different phases of the materials into a two-phase mixture of ceramic-liquid droplets in a carrier gas. The device also includes a plenum housing fluidly coupled with the atomizing housing and extending from the atomizing housing to a delivery end. The plenum housing includes an interior plenum that receives the two-phase mixture of ceramic-liquid droplets in the carrier gas from the atomizing zone housing. The device also includes one or more delivery nozzles fluidly coupled with the plenum chamber. The delivery nozzles provide outlets from which the two-phase mixture of ceramic-liquid droplets in the carrier gas is delivered onto one or more surfaces of a target object as the coating on the target object.

Spray nozzle device for delivering a restorative coating through a hole in a case of a turbine engine

A coated component including a slotted ceramic coating with a reactive phase coating disposed thereon for improved resistance to environmental contaminant compositions, along with methods of its formation, is provided. The coated component may include a substrate defining a surface, a ceramic coating disposed on the surface of the substrate, and a reactive phase coating disposed on the layer of environmental contaminant compositions. The ceramic coating includes a plurality of slots disposed in the ceramic coating forming segments of ceramic coating material.

Embodiments in accordance with the present disclosure include a meta-stable detergent based foam generating device of a turbine cleaning system includes a manifold configured to receive a liquid detergent and an expansion gas, a gas supply source configured to store the expansion gas, and one or more aerators fluidly coupled with, and between, the gas supply source and the manifold. Each aerator of the one or more aerators comprises an orifice through which the expansion gas enters the manifold, and wherein the orifice of each aerator is sized to enable generation of a meta-stable detergent based foam having bubbles with bubble diameters within a range of 10 microns (3.9&#xd7;10inches inches) and 5 millimeters (0.2 inches), having a half-life within a range of 5 minutes and 180 minutes, or a combination thereof.

Meta-stable detergent based foam cleaning system and method for gas turbine engines

A method of inspecting a component includes storing at least one inspection image file in a memory and receiving a search request associated with the at least one inspection image file. The method also includes accessing a database including a plurality of image files, comparing the hash code of the at least one inspection image file to the hash code of each image file of the plurality of image files, and identifying a first subset of image files based on the hash code comparison. The method also includes comparing the feature data of the at least one inspection image file to the feature data of each image file of the first subset of image files and classifying a second subset of image files as relevant based on the feature data comparison. The method further includes generating search results based on the second subset of image files.

Inspection systems and methods including image retrieval module

An atomizing spray device includes a housing having plural inlets and one or more outlets fluidly coupled with each other by an interior chamber. The inlets include a first inlet shaped to receive a first fluid and a second inlet shaped to receive a slurry of ceramic particles and a second fluid. The interior chamber in the housing is shaped to mix the first fluid received via the first inlet with the slurry received via the second inlet inside the housing to form a mixture in a location between the inlets and the one or more outlets. The interior chamber in the housing also is shaped to direct the mixture formed inside the housing as droplets outside of the housing via the one or more outlets such that, based on a discharged amount of the first fluid in the droplets, the first fluid promotes evaporation of the second fluid as the droplets traverse from the housing toward a surface of a component.
