A rechargeable battery includes: an electrode assembly including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode; a case having an opening and housing the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly sealing the opening of the case, and the cap assembly includes: a cap plate bonded to the case and covering the opening; a terminal plate bonded to the cap plate; and a thermal fusion member between the terminal plate and the cap plate and thermally fused with the terminal plate and the cap plate.

A rechargeable battery includes: an electrode assembly including a first electrode, a second electrode, a separator between the first and second electrodes, and first and second electrode tabs respectively coupled to the first and second electrodes; a case accommodating the electrode assembly and coupled to the first electrode tab; and a cap assembly sealing an opening in the case. The cap assembly includes: a cap plate covering the opening in the case; and a terminal plate coupled to the cap plate. The terminal plate includes: a flange portion coupled to and electrically insulated from the cap plate; and a tab connecting portion protruding from the flange portion toward the electrode assembly and extending through a terminal opening in the cap plate to be coupled to the second electrode tab. The terminal plate has a flat outer surface, and the tab connecting portion has a flat inner surface.

Rechargeable battery

A secondary battery including: an electrode assembly; a case accommodating the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly coupled to the case. The cap assembly includes: a cap-up exposed at a top of the cap assembly; a safety vent under the cap-up; and a reinforcement plate between the cap-up and the safety vent and extending along a periphery of the cap-up. The safety vent includes a protrusion protruding toward the electrode assembly and is electrically connected to the electrode assembly via the protrusion.

A cylindrical lithium ion secondary battery, including a cylindrical can; an electrode assembly in the cylindrical can with an electrolyte solution; and a cap assembly sealing the cylindrical can, the cap assembly including a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) device connected to the electrode assembly, a cap-up connected to the PTC device, solder between the PTC device and the cap-up, and an exterior space without the solder on external circumferences of the PTC device and the cap-up.
