Apparatus and method for receiving data in a mobile communication system using an adaptive antenna array scheme

Disclosed are a method and a system for transmitting/receiving signals in a mobile communication system using a multiple input multiple output adaptive antenna array scheme. A first receiver calculates a reception weight value by using a de-spread signal of a reception signal for creating a reception beam of the first receiver and calculates a transmission weight value by using the calculated reception weight value for creating a transmission beam of the second transmitter, thereby creating feedback information including the transmission weight value. A first transmitter transmits the feedback information to a second receiver. The second receiver receives the feedback information and the second transmitter detects the transmission weight value from the feedback information received in the second receiver, and creates the transmission beam corresponding to the detected transmission weight value in order to transmit a signal by applying the transmission beam to the signal.

System and method for transmitting /receiving a signal in a mobile communication system using a multiple input multiple output adaptive antenna array scheme

A method for transmitting and receiving weight information for creating transmission/reception beams in a mobile communication system using a multiple input multiple output adaptive antenna array scheme. The method includes a receiver receiving a predetermined signal, and differentially providing weights to a first scheme and a second scheme for minimizing an error between the received signal and a predetermined reference signal, thereby obtaining a minimum error value. The receiver generates a despread signal by despreading the received signal, produces a reception weight for creation of a reception beam by the receiver through calculation using the despread signal and the minimum error value, and produces a transmission weight for creation of a transmission beam by a counterpart transmitter through calculation using the reception weight and the minimum error value. The receiver generates predetermined feedback information including the transmission weight and a transmitter transmits the feedback information to a counterpart receiver.

A mobile communication system receives a reception signal of a reception signal, and performs a control operation such that a weight for generating a reception beam is calculated using a first technique if a difference between an error sum value at a current time and an error sum value at a previous time is greater than an absolute value of a first threshold or the error sum value at the current time is greater than or equal to a second threshold, and performs a control operation such that the weight is calculated using a second technique if the different between the error sum value at the current time and the error sum value at the previous time is less than or equal to the absolute value of the first threshold and the error sum value at the current time is less than the second threshold.

Apparatus and method for receiving data in a mobile communication system using an adaptive antenna array technique

A joint channel and Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation apparatus and method simplified to efficiently estimate a channel impulse response associated with a spatially selective transmission channel occurring in a mobile radio channel are provided. To uniformly process all directions, angles associated with a beam are predetermined according to a preset method. This selection calculates a linear system model with regular spatial sampling using regular spatial separation of beam angles. The novel beam forming compensates for a difference between an adaptive array antenna and a sector type antenna using appropriate beam steering according to the calculated linear system model, thereby improving performance and facilitating implementation.

Beam forming apparatus and method for an array antenna system

A beam-forming apparatus and method for improving system performance using a spatial interpolation and at least one Angle of Arrival (AoA) in a system based on regular spatial sampling is provided. The AoA is estimated using a carrier-to-interference ratio. Beam-forming angles are distributed and steered in a predefined scheme such that an identical process is applied in all directions. According to this steering, a linear system model is computed based on regular spatial sampling using regular spatial separation at beam angles. Beam-forming performance is improved by compensating for a difference between adaptive and sector-type arrays. Only the steps of computing a spatial interpolation and determining an angle range for beam-forming using at least one AoA are added. The precision of estimating an AoA and the precision of beam-forming increase without an additional antenna. Because the system is simpler than that of an adaptive beam-forming system, significant gain is obtained.
