A motor driving device is disclosed. The motor driving device includes: a rectifier rectifying alternating current (AC) power into direct current (DC) power to output an input voltage; a first buck-boost converter including a plurality of switches for converting the input voltage and having a buck mode of stepping down the input voltage and a boost mode of stepping up the input voltage; an inverter converting a DC-link voltage transformed from the first buck-boost converter into an AC voltage and transferring the AC voltage to a motor; and a controller receiving motor information related to driving of the motor, comparing magnitudes of a desired DC-link voltage depending on the received motor information and the input voltage with each other, and performing a control to switch only any one of the plurality of switches so that the first buck-boost converter is operated in the buck mode or the boost mode.

Disclosed herein are a power supply apparatus, and an electric apparatus and a vacuum cleaner having the power supply apparatus. According to an aspect of the present disclosure, the power supply apparatus includes: a first power converter configured to convert a first Alternating Current (AC) voltage into a Direct Current (DC) voltage; a second power converter configured to drop the DC voltage output from the first power converter and transfer the dropped DC voltage to a power storage unit, and to boost a DC voltage of the power storage unit and output the boosted DC voltage; and a third power converter configured to convert a DC voltage among the DC voltage output from the first power converter and the boosted DC voltage output from the second power converter, into a second AC voltage, and to transfer the second AC voltage to a load.

A method for selecting the optimum number of phases for a converter is provided, which selects a duty range using an input voltage and an output voltage, obtains ripple values for multiple phases in the duty range, and selects the optimum number of phases using the corresponding ripple values. The method for selecting the optimum number of phases for a converter includes a duty range selection step of selecting a duty range using an input voltage and an output voltage, a ripple value calculation step of obtaining ripple values for multiple phases within the selected duty range, a range ripple selection step of selecting one or more phases in the duty range, and a rated ripple selection step of selecting the phases having the minimum ripple value in a rated duty among the phases selected in the range ripple selection step.
