A method and apparatus of transmitting a reference signal in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes generating a precoded reference signal or a non-precoded reference signal in accordance with a rank, and transmitting the generated reference signal. Uplink transmission using multiple transmit antennas is supported through reference signal design and related control signaling.

The present invention provides a method for avoiding interference resulting from data transmission between an adjacent second base station and a second relay station placed within the coverage of the adjacent second base station. The method for avoiding interference comprises: receiving the radio resource scheduling information from the adjacent second base station; checking the radio resources used in the data transmission between the adjacent second base station and the second relay station based on the received radio resource scheduling information; and scheduling at least one radio resource among uplink radio resources and downlink radio resources for at least one first terminal and at least one first relay station which are connected to a first base station in order to avoid interference with the checked radio resource if the radio resource used in the data transmission from the second base station to the second relay station is checked as the uplink resource or if the radio resource used in the data transmission from the second relay station to the second base station is checked as the downlink resource.

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate efficient cell acquisition in a wireless communication system. In one aspect, a reference signal for use in cell acquisition can be constructed in a bandwidth-agnostic manner such that it contains a common central portion in a predetermined frequency band that is independent of a bandwidth utilized by an associated wireless communication system. The central portion can be constructed as a two-dimensional block in time and frequency that spans a default cell search bandwidth, a predetermined bandwidth specified by synchronization codes or other signals, or another suitable bandwidth. A reference signal can then be constructed form the central portion by tiling or expanding the central portion such that it spans the entire system bandwidth.

A method is provided for transmitting a downlink signal by a base station in a wireless communication system. A configuration of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols is transmitted for a first partition of a subframe through higher layer signaling, and a Relay-Physical Downlink Control Channel (R-PDCCH) contained in at least the first partition of the subframe is also transmitted. If the R-PDCCH contains a downlink assignment, the first partition of the subframe is configured not to be used for a transmission of a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) corresponding the R-PDCCH.

Method for allocating backhaul link resources in relay communication system, and method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving data using same

Facilitating frequency hopping for single carrier, frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) transmission is described herein. By way of example, user data transmitted within a transmission allocation unit can be frequency shifted with respect to time based slots of the allocation unit. As a result, frequency hopping can be accomplished while preserving single carrier constraints and a low peak to average power ratio (PAPR). Furthermore, various frequency shifted mechanisms are disclosed to accomplish preservation of single carrier restraints. For example, a scheduler can select between cyclic frequency shifting, transposed frequency shifting, and multiplexing of frequency selective scheduled and frequency hopped data based on an audit of scheduled data for the transmission allocation unit. As a result, the reduction in interference achieved through frequency hopping can be combined with the low PAPR for various data allocation configurations.

A method for performing HARQ includes: receiving information to determine downlink subframes used for a relay station to receive scheduling information from a BS; determining uplink subframes for performing a HARQ with the DL subframes, each of the UL subframes corresponding to each of the DL subframes; assigning sequentially each of a plurality of HARQ processes to each of the UL subframes one by one; and performing HARQ with the BS at at least one of the HARQ processes. An n-th subframe is configured for a corresponding UL subframe if an (n&#x2212;4)-th subframe is configured for one of the DL subframes, n denoting an integer. The HARQ processes are equal in number to the UL subframes. The DL subframes are configured in at least one radio frame having 10 subframes indexed from 0 to 9. Subframes having indexes 0, 4, 5 and 9 are not configured as a DL subframe.

The present invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for transmitting/receiving data in a relay communication system. The method comprises the steps of: setting, as a guard band, the first predetermined number of symbol transmission slots of a data transmission period in a subframe resource element of a downlink channel constituted by a control signal transmission period to which a control signal is allocated and the data transmission period to which downlink data is allocated; allocating reference signals to symbols of the data transmission period; puncturing the symbols corresponding to the guard band from among the symbols to which said reference signals are allocated; and transmitting signals to which said reference signals are allocated.

Techniques for sending control information in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a UE spreads control information across frequency with a DFT and across time with an orthogonal sequence to obtain output data for the control information. In one design, the UE receives codewords for N HARQ processes in N downlink subframes, determines an ACK value for each HARQ process, codes N ACK values for the N HARQ processes to obtain ACK information, generates output data for the ACK information, and sends the output data in one of M uplink subframes. In another aspect, first control information is processed based on a first coding and multiplexing scheme utilizing code division multiplexing in time and frequency domains. Second control information is processed based on a second coding and multiplexing scheme utilizing code division multiplexing in time domain and spreading in frequency domain.

Method and apparatus for transmitting downlink reference signal in wireless communication system supporting multiple antennas

Techniques for efficiently deriving uplink channel estimates without consuming much additional uplink resources are described. A user equipment (UE) may send a request for uplink resources on a request channel (REQCH) whenever the UE desires to transmit data on the uplink. The UE may send the REQCH on a set of subcarriers and from multiple antennas, e.g., send REQCH data on data subcarriers and pilot on pilot subcarriers. A Node B may receive the request, estimate the complex channel gains for the pilot subcarriers based on received pilot symbols, and coherently demodulate received data symbols based on the channel gain estimates. The Node B may estimate the complex channel gains for the data subcarriers based on demodulated data symbols and derive a channel estimate for each UE antenna based on the channel gain estimates for the pilot and data subcarriers. The Node B may use the channel estimates for MIMO scheduling, subband scheduling, and rate selection.

A method and apparatus for transmitting reference signals in a relay communication system are provided. The method transmits reference signals via a type 2 relay node in a relay communication system and includes a base station (BS) allocating a plurality of antenna ports in a mutually exclusive manner so that the antenna port of the BS and the antenna port of a peripheral relay node do not overlap each other, the BS and relay node transmitting reference signals to a user equipment (UE) via the corresponding antenna ports that are mutually exclusively allocated and the BS receiving channel state information from the UE to obtain channel state information between the BS and the UE and channel state information between the relay node and the UE.

A method for transmitting Channel State Information-Reference Signals (CSI-RSs) for eight or less antenna ports includes selecting one of a plurality of CSI-RS Resource Element (RE) groups defined on a data region of a downlink subframe and mapping CSI-RSs for the eight or less antenna ports to the selected CSI-RS RE group, and transmitting the downlink subframe in which the CSI-RSs for the eight or less antenna ports are mapped.

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate searches for a cell in a wireless communication environment. A mobile device can employ a searcher that can detect timing information respectively associated with PSCs and cells to determine the cell with the highest correlation. The searcher can detect SSCs, which can include detecting associated phase information, to determine the SSC with the highest correlation, CP length, and/or other information to facilitate identifying a desired cell having the strongest signal to establish communication between the mobile device and the desired cell. PSCs respectively associated with cells can have different positions in the symbol sequences, and SSCs can respectively be phase shifted at different angles to facilitate detection and identification of a cell(s), where a PSC can be utilized as a phase reference by the associated SSC.
