Provided are a method of adjusting a photonic bandgap of a photonic crystal, a method of manufacturing a reflective color filter using the same, and a display device including the reflective color filter. The method of adjusting a photonic bandgap of a photonic crystal includes forming the photonic crystal having a photonic bandgap on a substrate, and changing the photonic bandgap by irradiating light onto the photonic crystal. In addition, the display device includes a backlight, a transflective liquid crystal panel including liquid crystal cells sealed between first and second substrates. Each liquid crystal cell corresponding to a pixel includes a transmissive area and a reflective area. A transmissive color filter is formed on the first substrate, which faces the backlight, and a reflective color filter is formed on each reflective area.

Method of adjusting photonic bandgap of photonic crystal, method of manufacturing reflective color filter using the same, and display device including the reflective color filter

Provided are a display pixel using an electroactive polymer and a display apparatus employing the display pixel. The display pixel includes: an electroactive polymer layer, of which shape and/or size is displaced when a voltage is applied thereto; a diffraction grating, of which a pitch and a diffraction angle change according to a displacement of the electroactive polymer layer; and a liquid crystal layer disposed on the diffraction grating and controlling gradation according to a voltage applied thereto.

Display pixel using electroactive polymer and display apparatus employing the same

A transflective display panel and a display apparatus using the same are provided. The display panel includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix. Each of the pixels includes a plurality of subpixels, and each subpixel within a pixel outputs a different color of light. In addition, each of the subpixels includes a transflective mode region which has a reflection mode region with a diffraction grating and a transmission mode region; a liquid crystal layer which adjusts a transmittance of incident light through electric control; and a sub color filter which transmits light within a wavelength band of the incident light. Because the display panel includes the reflection mode region where the diffraction grating is formed, it can display a high-quality image with good white balance, even while outdoors or under bright illumination.

Transflective display panel and display apparatus using the same

Provided are a reflective unit using an electroactive polymer and a flexible display. The reflective unit includes: an electroactive polymer layer which becomes strained when a voltage is applied thereto by an electrode; a light reflecting unit reflecting external light and having reflecting cells arranged on the electroactive polymer layer to be spaced apart from one another wherein a distance between the reflecting cells is changed according to the strain of the electroactive polymer layer; and a light blocking layer preventing external light from being reflected by the light reflecting unit and having blocking cells arranged over the light reflecting unit to be spaced apart from one another.

Reflective unit using electroactive polymer and flexible display employing the reflective unit

A method of fabricating a one-way transparent optical system by which external light is effectively intercepted and internal light passes nearly without loss is provided. The method includes: forming a silver halide on a transparent substrate; aligning a mask in which a predetermined pattern is formed, on the transparent substrate and exposing the silver halide using the mask; developing and fixing the exposed silver halide and forming a plurality of light-absorbing materials on the transparent substrate; and forming protrusion structures having a shape of a convex lens shape for refracting incident light toward a corresponding light-absorbing material of the light-absorbing materials, on the transparent substrate on which the light-absorbing materials are formed.

Method of fabricating one-way transparent optical system

A method of fabricating a one-way transparent optical system designed to transmit almost 100% of internal light while effectively blocking radiation of external light. The method includes: forming bead-shaped light absorbing elements; dispersing the light absorbing elements over a soft transparent film; and curing the soft transparent film to fix the dispersed light absorbing elements onto the transparent film.

An apparatus and method for microstructures of a display device which focus external light toward light-absorption regions to enhance brightness and contrast of the display device. The display device includes a light absorption layer disposed to one side of a light emission layer. The light absorption layer includes light refracting structures and light absorption elements, wherein each of the light absorption elements is positioned in the light refracting structures. The light directing structures substantially direct incident light toward one of the plurality of light absorption elements positioned therein to reduce the reflection of external light.

The method includes: forming a photoresist on an upper surface of a transparent substrate; heating and carbonizing the photoresist to form a black body layer; patterning the black body layer to form a plurality of light-absorbing materials on the transparent substrate; and forming protrusion structures having a shape of a convex lens shape for refracting incident light toward a corresponding light-absorbing material of the light-absorbing materials, on the transparent substrate on which the light-absorbing materials are formed.
