A display apparatus includes an image sensor, a display panel, a timing controller, and a data driver. The image sensor senses a background image and generates background image data based on the background image. The display panel includes a first group of pixels disposed on a first area of the display panel and a second group of pixels disposed on a second area of the display panel. The timing controller extracts partial image data corresponding to the first area from input image data and partial background image data corresponding to the second area from the first background image data. The data driver generates first data voltages based on the partial image data, generates second data voltages based on the partial background image data, to output the first data voltages to the first group of pixels, and to output the second data voltages to the second group of pixels.

Display apparatus for extracting background and image data and method of driving the same

A light source module includes a LED array, a switch and a control part. The LED array includes a plurality of LED rows and a bridge light emitting part connecting the LED rows with each other. Each of the LED rows has a first direction light emitting part and a second direction light emitting part which are alternately disposed with each other. The switch adjusts an intensity of a current applied to the LED array. The control part determines an output status of the LED array and provides a control signal to the switch.

The light sourcing module of a backlit LCD display apparatus includes a light sources and power sources supporting substrate. The supporting substrate supports plural light sources on a top major surface thereof and at least one heat generating and power supplying circuit element that protrudes from a bottom major surface of the supporting substrate. The supporting substrate integrally includes wiring that couples driving power output by power supplying circuit element to the plural light sources. A rear receiving frame includes an integral heat-sinking and dissipating recess or groove that is positioned and dimensioned to receive the power supplying circuit element when the supporting substrate is received by the rear receiving frame. The integral heat-sinking and dissipating recess or groove removes heat from the heat generating and power supplying circuit element so that such heat does not adversely affect performance of the light sources.

A light source apparatus includes a light source module, a local dimming control part and a light source driving part. The light source module includes a plurality of light-emitting blocks. Each of the light-emitting blocks includes a first color light source, a second color light source and a third color light source, respectively. The local dimming control part drives the light-emitting blocks by blocks. The local dimming control part sets a reference duty signal for first, second and third color driving signals in accordance with a driving mode of the light source module. The light source driving part generates the first color driving signal, the second color driving signal and the third color driving signal by using the reference duty ratio set in accordance with the driving mode and a driving current having a same peak current level in accordance with the driving mode.

A method of driving a light source, a light source apparatus for performing the method, and a display apparatus having the light source apparatus are disclosed in accordance with one or more embodiments. In the method, a plurality of light source strings connected in parallel is driven by applying a driving voltage to a first terminal of the light source strings. A peak current due to a voltage deviation of each of the light source strings is switch-controlled to uniform an average current of the light source strings. Thus, a peak current flowing through light source strings in accordance with a voltage deviation of the light source strings is switch-controlled, so that an average current of the light source strings may be uniformly maintained. Therefore, a voltage deviation is not consumed as power, so that damage to circuit elements due to heat may be prevented.

A light source panel according to an embodiment includes a plurality of light-emitting parts having a plurality of light-emitting substances to be divided into a predetermined number of partial areas. A light source driving part provides each of the light-emitting substances with a current. An adaptive dimming control part receives an image signal from an external device and sets the light-emitting parts into a first dimming block corresponding to a first color class of the first image signal or a second dimming block corresponding to a second color class of the first image signal to control the backlight assembly, in order to prevent color artifacts from being generated at a boundary area between the first dimming block and the second dimming block, the adaptive dimming control part controlling the backlight assembly, so that the first dimming block performs a second dimming operation.

A method of driving light sources controls amounts of light from light-emitting diode (LED) strings based on pulse signals to operate the LED strings connected in parallel. Voltages are synchronized with the pulse signals at input terminals of control circuits to detect the voltages, the control circuits being connected to the LED strings and controlling resistance variations of the LED strings. The operation of the LED strings is stopped when the detected voltage is out of a predetermined allowable voltage range due to a short-circuited LED. Therefore, a light source device may be protected by stopping the operation of the LED strings.

A light-source module for a display device and a display device having the same, in which the light-source module includes a plurality of light-emitting units, a current difference controller, and a converter. The light-emitting units are connected in parallel between a driving power input terminal and a ground terminal to emit light by the diving power and to output respective feedback control signals. The current difference controller is configured to output a plurality of power control signals according to the respective feedback control signals. The converter is configured to change a current of the driving power provided to the light-emitting units according to the power control signals. The amounts of currents flowing through the light emitting units each having a plurality of light emitting diodes are measured and the levels of voltages applied to the light-emitting units are changed according to the measurement results. Accordingly, a current difference between the light emitting units can be reduced and the brightness uniformity of the light source can be improved.
