The present invention relates to a nickel-based catalyst using hydrotalcite-like precursor and a steam reforming reaction by using the catalyst, and particularly to a nickel-based catalyst prepared by dispersing nickel uniformly onto the inner part and the surface of the support through a substitution between the magnesium and the active nickel metal and optimizing the molar ratios of nickel, magnesium and aluminum in order to utilize nickel as an active metal and a hydrotalcite-like precursor consisting of aluminum and magnesium, which shows an increased specific surface area of the catalyst and surface area of the active nickel, and thus enables the production of hydrogen-rich gas in high yield during the steam reforming reaction of LPG with superior maintenance of catalytic activity for a long period of time due to the inhibition of carbon deposition.

Disclosed is a process for the preparation of 11-(4-[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]-1-piperazinyl)-dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepine. In the process, low-priced 2,2'-dithiosalicylic acid as starting material is subjected to bond formation reaction with 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene in a basic aqueous solution, a nitro group reduction reaction is conducted, cyclization and chlorination reactions are simultaneously carried out in the presence of a equivalent amount of halogenating agent, a reaction with piperazine is continuously conducted without separation, and a reaction with 2-haloethoxyethanol is conducted, thereby it is possible to economically producing Quetiapine, that is, 11-(4-[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]-1-piperazinyl)-dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepine, in an environmentally friendly manner. Particularly, the process is advantageous in that economic efficiency is assured because of use of the low-priced starting material, use of an organic solvent is minimized because a reaction is conducted in an aqueous solution, and it is possible to achieve the environmentally friendly and economical process having high commercial usefulness because the number of reaction steps of the process is reduced and because generation of acidic waste is minimized.

Process for the preparation of 11-(4-[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]-1-piperazinyl)dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepine

Disclosed is a method of preparing 10H-dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepin-11-one, including reacting dithiosalicylic acid with 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene in a basic aqueous solution in the presence or absence of a reducing agent, to prepare 2-(2-nitrophenylsulfuryl)benzoic acid; subjecting the 2-(2-nitrophenylsulfuryl)benzoic acid to nitro group reduction in the presence of hydrogen, a solvent and a heterogeneous metal catalyst, to prepare 2-(2-aminophenylsulfuryl)benzoic acid; and directly cyclizing the 2-(2-aminophenylsulfuryl)benzoic acid in an organic solvent in the presence or absence of an acid catalyst. The method according to the present invention is economical due to the use of the inexpensive starting material, and also environmentally friendly and efficient by minimizing the use of the organic solvent and performing direct cyclization without the activation of carboxylic acid.

Method of preparing 10H-dibenzo[b,f][11,4]thiazepin-11-one

Disclosed is a method for preparing serinol (2-amino-1,3-proanediol). From nitromethane, para-formaldehyde and sodium hydroxide, 1-nitro-1,3-propanediol sodium salt is prepared as a medical intermediate. In a fixed bed, this intermediate is allowed to undergo the continuous hydrogenation of 2-nitro-1,3-propanediol sodium salt and methanol as shown in reaction (1). In addition to being simple, the method is economically favorable and affords the high yield and high purity of serinol.

Disclosed is a method for preparing DL-&agr;-tocopherol through the condensation of isophytol or phytol derivatives and trimethylhydroquinone (TMHQ) using a catalyst system comprising a divalent metal halogen compound, silica gel and/or silica-alumina, and a Br&ouml;nsted acid. Isophytol or phytol derivatives are slowly added to trimethylhydroquinone for the condensation thereof at 80 to 135&deg; C. over 30 to 60 min in the presence of the metal halogen and the silica gel and/or silica-alumina. In the presence of the Br&ouml;nsted acid, the intermediates are converted into the product. The silica gel and/or silica-alumina is washed with a polar solvent for recovery. The catalyst system can remarkably reduce side-reactions upon the condensation of isophytol or phytol derivatives and TMHQ, thus producing DL-&agr;-tocopherol with a high purity at a high yield. Also, the catalyst system can be regenerated in succession because of its being able to avoid the decrease of catalytic activity attributed to the adsorption of organic materials; thus reducing the production cost of DL-&agr;-tocopherol and the quantity of industrial wastes generated. With these advantages, the catalyst system can be effectively used in preparing highly pure DL-&agr;-tocopherol at a high yield on a commercial scale.

Method for preparing DL-&agr;-tocopherol with a high yield and high purity

Disclosed is a process for the production of optically pure (S)-beta-hydroxy-gamma-butyrolactone through the hydrogenation of substituted carboxylic acid derivatives. A solution containing 1 to 50% by weight of a substituted carboxylic acid derivative is fed at a WHSV of 0.1 to 10 h , to a fixed bed reactor which is filled with a catalyst and maintained at a reaction temperature of 50 to 550&deg; C. under a halogen partial pressure of 15 to 5,500 psig. The catalyst is composed of a noble metal as a catalytically effective ingredient which is impregnated in an inorganic oxide as a support. The molar ratio of the hydrogen to the substituted carboxylic acid derivative is maintained at a molar ratio of 1:1 to 10:1. The process can produce optically pure (S)-beta-hydroxy-gamma-butyrolactone with higher purities at higher yields than can conventional techniques. In addition to being relatively simple and environmentally friendly, the process is so economically favorable as to apply to industrial production.
