A separator includes a porous substrate, a porous organic-inorganic coating layer formed on at least one surface of the porous substrate, and an organic coating layer formed on the surface of the organic-inorganic coating layer. The porous organic-inorganic coating layer includes a mixture of inorganic particles and a first binder polymer. The first binder polymer contains a copolymer including (a) a first monomer unit including either at least one amine group or at least one amide group or both in the side chain thereof and (b) a (meth)acrylate having a C-Calkyl group as a second monomer unit. The organic coating layer is formed by dispersing a second binder polymer on the surface of the organic-inorganic coating layer, leaving scattered uncoated areas. The porous organic-inorganic coating layer of the separator has a high packing density, enabling the fabrication of a thin battery in an easy manner without losing stability. The porous organic-inorganic coating layer has good ability to bind to the porous substrate, which prevents the inorganic particles from separating from the porous organic-inorganic coating layer. In addition, the organic coating layer enhances the bindability of the separator to an electrode without a substantial increase in resistance.

Separator, method for producing the same and electrochemical device including the same

The present invention provides a separator having a porous substrate; and a porous coating layer formed on one surface of the porous substrate and comprising a mixture of inorganic particles and a binder polymer, which has a value of a porosity&#xd7;an air permeability per thickness in the range of 5 to 40, the porosity and the air permeability per thickness. The separator having a porous coating layer according to the present invention has a porosity which is controlled depending on the air permeability of the porous substrate, and thus exhibit superior ionic conductivity as well as good mechanical properties, thereby contributing to improve the performance and safety of an electrochemical device.

Separator and electrochemical device having the same

The present invention refers to a separator and an electrochemical device having the same. The separator of the present invention comprises a non-woven fabric substrate obtained from fibers and having multiple pores formed between the fibers; and a polymer coating layer formed on a part or the whole of the surface of the fibers, wherein the polymer coating layer comprises a polymer having a tensile strength of 80 MPa or more, a tensile modulus of 3,000 MPa or more and a flexural modulus of 3,000 MPa or more. The separator of the present invention can reduce costs for manufacturing electrochemical devices, and it can control the size of pores present in the non-woven fabric substrate to prevent the generation of a leak current and provide improved mechanical strength.

A separator may include (A) a porous substrate having pores, and (B) a porous coating layer formed on at least one surface of the porous substrate and made from a mixture of inorganic particles and a binder polymer, and the binder polymer may contain a copolymer of (a) a first monomer unit with at least one of an amine group and an amide group at a side chain, and (b) a second monomer unit of (meth)acrylate with an alkyl group having 1 to 14 carbon atoms. The porous coating layer of the separator may have a high packing density, thereby easily forming a thin film battery without hindering safety, and may have good adhesive strength with the porous substrate, thereby preventing detachment of the inorganic particles in the porous coating layer during assembly of an electrochemical device.

Separator having improved porous coating layer having high packing density and electrochemical device comprising the same

The present disclosure provides a method for manufacturing an electrospun microfiber non-woven web with high strength for a lithium secondary battery, a non-woven web manufactured therefrom, and a separator comprising the non-woven web. More specifically, the present disclosure provides a microfiber non-woven web manufactured by bringing a solution of engineering plastic resin with high heat-resistance into electrospinning, the manufacture thereof, and a separator comprising the web. According to the present disclosure, the engineering plastic resin with high heat-resistance is used in the manufacture of the microfiber non-woven web to provide improved physical properties including tensile strength and good heat-resistance and chemical-resistance, as compared with conventional polyethylene-based separators.
