Further, the glass element has a stress profile such that it does not fail when it is subject to 200,000 cycles of bending to a target bend radius of from 1 mm to 20 mm, by the parallel plate method. Still further, the glass element has a puncture resistance of greater than about 1.5 kgf when the first primary surface of the glass element is loaded with a tungsten carbide ball having a diameter of 1.5 mm.

Bendable glass stack assemblies, articles and methods of making the same

A method includes heating a glass preform having a plurality of glass layers and drawing the glass preform in a distal direction to form a drawn glass sheet extending distally from the glass preform and having the plurality of glass layers. The drawn glass sheet is thinner than the glass preform. The drawn glass sheet can be rolled onto a collection spool. At least a portion of a glass layer can be removed from the drawn glass sheet. An exemplary glass sheet includes a first glass layer, a second glass layer adjacent to the first glass layer, and a thickness of at most about 0.1 mm. An exemplary ion exchanged glass sheet includes a thickness of at most about 0.1 mm and a surface layer that is under a compressive stress and extends into an interior of the glass sheet to a depth of layer.

A laminated glass article includes a core layer and a clad layer directly adjacent to the core layer. The core layer is formed from a core glass composition. The clad layer is formed from a clad glass composition. An average clad coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is less than an average core CTE such that the clad layer is in compression and the core layer is in tension. A compressive stress of the clad layer decreases with increasing distance from an outer surface of the clad layer within an outer portion of the clad layer and remains substantially constant with increasing distance from the outer surface of the clad layer within an intermediate portion of the clad layer disposed between the outer portion and the core layer. A thickness of the intermediate portion of the clad layer is at least about 82% of a thickness of the clad layer.

Glass article with determined stress profile and method of producing the same

A method includes contacting a glass sheet with a forming surface to form a shaped glass article. An effective viscosity of the glass sheet during the contacting step is less than a contact viscosity of the glass sheet in contact with the forming surface during the contacting step.

A method includes contacting a second layer of a glass sheet with a forming surface to form a shaped glass article. The glass sheet includes a first layer adjacent to the second layer. The first layer includes a first glass composition. The second layer includes a second glass composition. An effective viscosity of the glass sheet during the contacting step is less than a viscosity of the second layer of the glass sheet during the contacting step. A shaped glass article includes a first layer including a first glass composition and a second layer including a second glass composition. A softening point of the first glass composition is less than a softening point of the second glass composition. An effective 10P temperature of the glass article is at most about 900&#xb0; C.

An edge finishing apparatus includes a surface, a fluid delivery device configured to deliver at least one magnetorheological polishing fluid (MPF) ribbon to the at least one well, at least one magnet placed adjacent to the surface to selectively apply a magnetic field in a vicinity of the surface, and at least one holder placed in opposing relation to the surface, the at least one holder being configured to support at least one article such that an edge of the at least one article can be selectively immersed in the MPF ribbon delivered to the at least one well.

Edge finishing apparatus

Methods and assemblies related to frame or bezel packaging of a sealed glass assembly, such as a fit-sealed OLED device, such as an OLED display panel. The frame or bezel packaging may have one or more of (a) rounded or chamfered corners, (a) a cover, (b) a reinforced lead edge, (c) openings or cutouts in the back panel to conserve material and lighten the bezel, and (d) a shock absorbent intermediate layer of low modulus of elasticity material applied between the sealed glass assembly and the back and/or sides of the frame or bezel. The frame or bezel design may include a gap between the sealed glass assembly and the back panel of the bezel. The gap may be filled at least in part with low modulus of elasticity backing material. The glass package may have one or more of (a) rounded or chamfered corners, (b) rounded or chamfered edges, (c) a low modulus of elasticity material applied around its periphery or portions of its periphery, such as on the corners only, (d) a shortened lead end, and (e) a thickened lead end.

Bezel packaging for sealed glass assemblies and a glass assembly therefor

A method for sealing an organic light emitting diode (OLED) device is disclosed wherein the OLED device comprises a color filter. A color filter is deposited on a first glass plate or substrate and a glass-based frit is then deposited in a loop around the color filter, The deposited fit loop is then heated by electromagnetic energy to evaporate organic constituents and to sinter the fit in a pre-sintering step. An OLED device may then be assembled by positioning a second glass plate comprising an organic light emitting material deposited thereon in overlying registration with the first glass plate, with the color filer and the organic light emitting material positioned between the plates. The fit is then heated with a laser to form a hermetic seal between the first and second glass plates.
