In one example, real-time text (RTT) communications are integrated with video services. For instance, one method for integrating RTT communications with video services includes receiving a real time text call intended for a recipient in a home network, forwarding the real time text call to a first device in the home network, receiving a signal to redirect the real time text call to a second device in the home network that is different from the first device, and forwarding the real time text call to the second device, in response to the signal.

Integrating real-time text with video services

A system, process and computer-readable media that incorporate teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, an interactive application delivering captions of an audio signal, such as a voicemail message or audio received concurrently during a telephone conversation. The application can be a television application, for example, receiving at a media processor associated with equipment of a first party, a textual interpretation of an audio signal of a second party, for example, during an active telephone call between the first party and the second party. A graphical image of the textual interpretation of the audio signal is rendered at the media processor and presented to a display device, such as a television display. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Apparatus and method for managing interactive television and voice communication services

A communications system is designed to allow sound-impaired persons to communicate with sound-unimpaired individuals via the Internet. When a sound-impaired person at a Text Teletypewriter (TTY) terminal initiates a call that is destined for a sound-unimpaired person, the communications system ascertains whether the sound unimpaired person is currently using the Internet and, if so, automatically completes the call over the Internet and the communications system without the help of any communications assistant.

A method of operating a telecommunications network to provide network-based messaging services includes utilizing a communication link between the network and a telephone adjunct interface. The adjunct interface detects and alerts the subscriber to the existence of waiting messages. In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the invention, a combination of AC ring detection and outcall polling of the network is employed to determine whether any messages have been received by the network service platform. Specifically, if the subscriber phone is not answered after a predetermined number of rings, the interface polls the network after a suitable delay to determine if any messages were left. If so, the network transmits a code or other signal that is recognized by the interface device, and a visual and/or audible indication is then provided to the subscriber. If the subscriber line is busy or on call-forward while a calling party is seeking to leave a message, the network service platform stores the message and waits a selected interval before seeking to alert the subscriber.

Method of providing telecommunications network-based message services

A telephone adjunct interface for use with a network-based voice and/or data message storage and delivery service detects and alerts the subscriber to the existence of waiting messages. The interface device utilizes a combination of AC ring detection and outcall polling of the network to determine whether a visual and/or audible notification should be provided to the subscriber. That is, if the subscriber phone is not answered after a selected number of rings, the interface polls the network after a suitable delay to determine if any messages were left. If the subscriber line is busy or on call-forward while a calling party is seeking to leave a message, the network service platform stores the message and waits a selected interval before seeking to alert the subscriber. Advantageously, the device is configured as a small, portable and inexpensive consumer premise unit which connects easily to all standard analog telephone systems that use modular connectors.

Message waiting adjunct device

A power transfer circuit includes first and second windings (L1, L2) sharing a common magnetic core (101). Each winding has associated with it a parallel capacitor to thus form a pair of 'tank' circuits. The first winding (L1) is connected at one end to a voltage supply and, at the other end, to ground through an FET switch (100,200). The switch (100,200) is turned on and off at a predetermined frequency and at a 50% duty cycle. The second winding (L2) and associated capacitor (C2) achieves parallel resonance at the predetermined frequency. Similarly the combined first and second windings (L1,L2) and associated capacitors (C1,C2) achieve parallel resonance at said predetermined frequency. The second winding (L2) need not be electrically connected to the first winding (L1) which transfers energy to it through the magnetic core (101). The transfer circuit efficiently couples power across a dielectric interface to a pickup coil (L3). One particularly good application of the power transfer circuit is in connection with a contactless Smart Card.
