A steering column assembly unit of a motor vehicle steering column adjustable in height and tilt with a steering axle, a steering column housing accommodating the steering axle, and a fastening device for the detachable fixation of the steering column housing at a bracket that is a rigid part of the body. The fastening device has at least one plate assembly fixed at the steering column housing and the steering column housing includes a one-piece component provided with longitudinal holes. A plate assembly is arranged in at least one opening of the steering column housing. The steering column housing may be advantageously manufactured from an extruded aluminum section. A central through hole of the steering column housing accommodates the steering axle, wherein the steering axle is held by at least two bearings pressed in directly.

Such a safety system has an at least double telescoping shaft system, in which at least two shaft parts are connected to one another by an intermediate shaft part, and the inner shaft parts engage a radial expansion of the corresponding outer shaft part, and a cross section of the shear material designed for shearing is arranged between the shaft parts in the area of the expansion.

The present invention pertains to a steering column for a motor vehicle equipped with an inflatable air bag in the steering wheel (6), in which the parts (3, 4) of a steering shaft, which are connected to one another by a universal joint (5), are rotatably mounted in a housing consisting of a movable upper housing part (1) and a lower housing part (2) rigidly attached to the body, and the two parts of the housing are connected by a hinge (7) to a hinge axis (9) that extends approximately horizontally in the plane of the intersection of the axes of the universal joint, and can be interlocked with one another by the frictional engagement of a clamping device (13). A steering tie rod or similar strut for motor vehicles with a securing member (4) acting in the longitudinal direction of the steering tie rod is described, which securing member comes into action when a defined, axially acting load value is exceeded. In another variant of the present invention, the length of the steering tie rod may undergo a limited change after the securing member has been overcome, so that limited fitness for use of the vehicle is maintained.

A steering column for motor vehicles with axially adjustable steering shaft and positive locking between an axially adjustable, non-rotatably mounted steering column jacket and a support bearing that forms a rigid part of the vehicle body is described, wherein the locking mechanism consists of teeth provided on the circumference of the steering column jacket and teeth engaging in same, which latter teeth are provided on a locking element movably anchored in the support bearing, as well as of wedge bodies which can be moved into a locked position that brings about locking. A zone of grooves (8) are provided for receiving lubricant on an inner surface of the sliding shell.
